Kyodo News International, Tokyo
Mar. 11--TOKYO -- Hitachi Ltd. said Thursday it will recall 4,430 50-inch high-definition plasma television sets and monitors for free inspection and repair as they may have defective circuit boards.

Subject to the recall are machines in the W50-M3100 monitor model and the W50-PDH3000 television model manufactured between October 2002 and December 2003. They carry production numbers from G2J000001 to G3L004430.

There may be cracks in soldered parts that could cause power to automatically shut down, Hitachi said.

Hitachi received panels for the monitors and TVs from Pioneer Corp., which announced a recall of some 51,700 plasma TVs and monitors for the same reason the same day.
