Hi all
First time posted here with a question.

My Pioneer HD box doesnt have a coax outlet to let me tape a channel like reg. HBO...How do you tape a program (NONHDTV) with this type of box? My VCR doesn't record thru RCA jacks...

Anyone else have this situation?

Thank you
Chris

Well being realistic, you should just buy a new VCR with inputs.  However there are video modulator boxes you can buy at Radio Shack and the like.  These take the composite video and audio and then generate a RF signal on channels 3 or 4 (switchable) and you can feed your VCR that way.  But bang for buck, your VCR is probably a very inexpensive one and VCR's today are pretty cheap with inputs.

Or you could split your signal so one goes into the cable box and one goes into the vcr. This is what I do as it is the only way I can get PIP on my tv.

Thanks so far..but

My vcr has 2 sets of RCA jacks for input..the problem is that you can't tape thru them they are not recognize for tapeing..if I play the box thru them and hit record it is just blue screen and it says "index write" on the screen.  The VCR was bought in may of 2003 And has 2 external imputs"the RCA Jacks"  and one "tuner input" the tuner input is the only one to tape on as described in my manual....Also if I split my cable I can't reicive premium channels or that was the first thing I would have done....not to sound mean

How does anyone here tape the sopranos off an HD box?

Your VCR probably has a switch (perhaps only on the remote, perhaps only in a setup menu) where you can change the input to "line" which should then record from the RCA jacks.

Ahhh Yes it does have an input switch and to record it must be on tuner and I am back to the first problem!!

Give me the name of your(anyone) VCR that you record off of an HD box and can tape channel 311 HBO and I will go buy it!

Man it shouldn't be so hard...lol

It seems odd that your VCR would have line input jacks and not let you record through them.  If that is the case, it's unsual in that I've never seen a VCR that wouldn't record through the line in.  I would guess that virtually ANY VCR from Best Buy, CC, American would do it for you.  All these places have good return policies so if you go new VCR route, I'd ignore this need, pick one out that you like (price, features, whatever) take it home (unpack it carefully) and try it out.  If it doesn't meet your needs, exchange it.  Don't count on the salesperson to know which will and won't do this.

I record from my HD box on my very old VCR all the time (but it needs to be 311 not 500 in the case of HBO)

Not sure if you're willing to take this step, but I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder and a Pioneer Cable Box and am not only able to record non-HD channels, but also the HD channels (not exactly HD when recorded since feeds to the DVD are not component, but better quality than SD and in widescreen)

Options...
1- Find your VCR manual and figure out how to record from the line input (if it has a line input, you can record from it!).

2- Swap out the Pioneer HD for an SA HD... i believe they have an RF output port.  Someone here using one can verify....

3- New $49 VCR
