but the site appears to be down right now.

Time Warner's Website is offline for maintanence right now as I understand it, as all corporate websites go down time to time.
:)
As for their "just can't get it right", new trainees are added over time and they will give the most knowledge they can given the training provided and this is on-going.
I have had Directv CSR's that were not well informed, but they too, put me on hold and asked the important questions as TWC CSRs will also.

Here are some things to remember about obtaining HDTV service from TWC from a call I made to TWC and the information was consistant even when I called once more:
HDTV local networks you can get OTA (depending on weather and your location and your determination) are 504,505,506,510 and 512 with a basic non-digital package (prices depend on your local town due to regulations governing basic analog service) PLUS: the rental of the HDTV  converter box with remote which goes for $7.95 monthly. You  will only get these five HD locals with the most basic of service and the required HDTV converter box from TWC. Usually, this means a bill with tax and fees around $20/month.
IF you want Discovery HD Theater you must go with the Digital Basic plan of $41.75 a month plus the $7.95 box/remote monthly rental. This gives you the analog channels and some digitally-delivered channels.
If you want the HD package of iNHD 1 & 2 plus HDNET and HDNET Movies, it will be available only by getting  this Digital Basic package plus a $6.95 additional charge.
HBO/Showtime HD (East) are available with subscription for $15 for the HBO and $5 for the Showtime and this rounds out your HDTV channel availablity to 13 HD channels, if you include the FOX Sports Net HD channel which is only on occasionally, like Directv's Special Events Channel.

Hope this answers your questions...or wait for the website to be up and running again.

LOL...your devotion to Time Warner is very evident!

Actually, TWC's CSRs will hang up on you, or treat you rudely enough so you hang up on them.  Also, they like to take down your phone number and say that they will have a supervisor call you back, which never happens.

As to the original post, I suggest you keep calling them until you get someone who knows what they're talking about.  Also, you can send them an email through their website.  When I emailed them, a knowledgable CSR called me back the next day.

First, there is NO devotion to TWC and I do not work there and am just a customer like everyone else!

Secondly, I have had service with cable since I moved here in 1992 and have seen an increase in customer service, more so in the past year than ever before.

Third, until you work in a customer service job or become a CSR, don't tear them all down as they are like all people:some good and some bad.
I was one and now and I can still be one taking excess calls due to overflow,as needed, as I am now a Customer Service Manager.

Finally, if you ever were in the IT field, as I am, you would be fully aware of website downtime for upgrades and maintenance, which it appears you are not.

HDTV with TWC is better now more than ever...I used to have HD with DTV and with locals HD from TWC, but the cost of equipment and lack of HD channel offerings after moving to a new home made me go all-cable, for now. It is the most "bang for the buck" right now for HDTV delivery...soon we will have HD PVRs, another item I won't have to buy-but that is my decision and my opinion.

Personally, if satellite offers a complete solution like TWC does for everything without equipment outlays and a one-dish solution (HD locals via sat), I will check them out again, but they don't.
Thank you.

You do get one more HD channel with the basic package: 540 (Fox Sports Net North).

Hey, my latest billing mailer states they offer Fox6 in HDTV too. ;)

russellj

I have Basic Cable from TWC in my house as a backup to Directv. After reading this post I called TWC and they told me that it is correct. I can pick up an HDTV converter box from them and receive the local Milwaukee HD channels. I am going to get the converter box tomorrow. With the local HD Channels from TWC and the HD channels from Directv I will have a total of 13 HD Channels that I can watch. I would have picked up the locals with an antenna but I live in a low area in Waukesha and have problems receiving OTA HD.

gparris

Glad you found the TWC information accurate and helpful.
;)
Last year at this time I, too, had both and I just used my receiver to switch (with its component inputs) between HD TWC and DTV HD channels. Make sure you have a digital coaxial cable input  on your receiver back for sound from the TWC HD box as cable still offers only this, no optical yet. If you don't have this feature on your receiver, Circuit City has a great sale on them this week, just for example, and some SONYs among others have this...just a suggestion. Then you leave both DTV and TWC boxes on and switch between the two with your receiver remote via sound inputs after setup. :) It worked for me when I had both.
Since you have HBO/SHowtime and the DTV HD package, you should get 6 HD channels plus DTV's PPV HD channel for 7 from them, then TWCs 504-505-506-510-512-540 (6 HD channels) for the total of 13. You would get 15 HD if you had the digital package from TWC (with the DTV HD package) to include iNHD 1 & 2 channels, but since you already have DTV hooked up with equipment invested and running, the $41.75 plus $6.95 seems a little high for 2 more channels....

So enjoy both worlds of DTV and TWC and try this setup I suggested  for a smoother switching...
I hope this assists you.

Don't forget - you'll also get 541 (Discovery).  Also, for the $6.95, over and above iNHD 1 & 2 you'll also get HDNet and HDNetMovies.  Here's my lineup:
504-505-506-510-512-540-541-545-546-547-548.  The only 2 HD channels I do not get are HBO and ShowTime (since I don't subscribe to movie channels.

Being an IT/IS person for many, many years, I can tell you no respectable company that is serious about customer service would EVER do maintenance or upgrades at 7:00 AM in the morning (which is when the person posted about the web site being down).

Maintenance should be done around midnight on a quiet day of the week.  That day is chosen based on tracking of hits to it's web page over time.  If it ain't done by 3:00 AM, it's time to back things out and get it back up!

On the Customer Service front ... I have not talked to DTV, but I can say Dish is as bad if not worse than Charter Cable was when I had them a long time ago.  Then again, I'm not known for my phone skills either.  :p  I was "forced" to work a help desk in the early 90's.  It was only once a week, but after a couple of months, they asked me not to help them out any more.  ;)   It seems, the number of calls were showing a large reduction by the afternoon when I was on the desk.  Could be the way I would answer the line.  "Yeah, I know X, Y, and Z servers are down.  What else do you want?"  :D

Thanks...but russellj just wanted HD locals and won't get Discovery HD (541) without opting for the "Digital Basic" package for $41.75 like you probably do, which allows for the $6.95 HD package to be added to get the channels you DO receive, which is great for you. :)

I was just adding up the possible HD channels between DTV and TWC based on what he had with 13 and came up with that.

IMO, HBO and Showtime have some really interesting, creative and entertaining shows they produce in addition to the movies I do not want to rent or purchase...and the DTV and Cable systems always have them, at least to what appears to be the east-coast feeds, in HD. Cable allows for more of the channels they offer, even if these are repeats of previous programmes, but this gives you a better chance of seeing them sooner or finding them to record for later viewing. ;)

TWC has a Digi 2000 package for $20 more that you can pick HBO and SHo and get a $5 discount on your RoadRunner and it is like having the SHo added for "no charge" if you look at it that way.

russellj: Welcome to the forum!

summerfun

Here are the TWC packages:

$12.95 (different is some areas) Basic
All local OTA channels both SD and HD

Add $47.95 Digital package
All cable channels including HD (except premium)

Add $20 (get $5 off RR, net $15 more)
Two premium channels, includes icontrol and HD for the premium channels. (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, TMC) ($10 more and get all four. Only HBO and Showtime have HD.)

Add $6.95 HD premium package
Gives you INHD, INHD2, HDNet, HDMV

gparris

Thanks, summerfun...quite accurate as I can see...
:)

Some CSRs at TWC have begun quoting the packages with one HD rental box ($7.95 additional) which is more truthful, but in experience it is confusing, too.
But I can see why they leave it out as some households may opt for more than one box SD or HD or add DVR service.:D

Hope this clears any questions our newest forum member(s) have on TWC package pricing for this thread.

I just wish cable or sat (outside of Voom) offered more HD movie channels, at least the Cinemax HD and The Movie Channel HD like they do for HBO and Showtime.:(

Thanks summerfun!

russellj

I got my HD box from TWC today. With just the basic service I get channels 504, 505, 506, 510, 512 and Fox Sportnet North. With Directv I get ESPN HD, Discovery HD, HDNet, HDNet Movies, HBO HD, Showtime HD, HD Pay Per View, Spice HD (on the same channel as HD Pay Per View, but late at night), And Channel 84 which provides special events broadcast in HD, such as "NFL Films Presents". I would like to have Starz HD, Cinemax HD and TMC HD, but neither Directv or TWC offer them. So if you count the Spice HD channel on Directv as a new DH channel then I get 15 HD channels between TWC and Directv. I just wish that I didn't have to have two different providers to do it.
