Does anybody know how to tell what input signal you are getting on a Sony GW?

My Hitachi has an input button that will tell me if I am getting 480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i.

Could you elaborate on that? I have read the manual cover to cover and never heard of a servcie menu.

What are you trying to figure out?

Here are some basics:

DVD = 480p with progressive scan

NBC, CBS and most other HD channels = 1080i other than...

ABC & ESPNHD = 720p
Fox will be = 720p in fall

Component, DVI or 1394 can give you HD input resolution of 1080/720 as well as the 480 stuff while S-video and composite will give you only 480 stuff.

OTA ABC, NBC, CBS etc if it not on the digital channels will be 480i

I believe you will get the best pic on that TV with your stuff displaying 720p from the channel box.

Which model Grand Wega do you own?

I am looking for something to display on my screen to confirm what input signal I am receiving. For example, my Hitachi will show 1080i on CBS or 720p for ABC.

It is not real important, but being the kind of guy that I am, I like to know what I am getting from what source. Right now the list is pretty short and I know what the different networks are broadcasting in, but as the list of HD channels grows, it would just be interesting to always see what they are sending.

Also, my x-box will send 480, 720p and 1080i depending on which game. Some of the games are not marked, so this would be the only way to know for sure what was being sent to the TV.

It's mostly just my curiosity, but my Hitachi does it and I was wondering if my Sony does it as well. The model number is in my signature line.

I said Service Menu. not user menu.

Turn the TV off and hit 'display, 5, volume+, power' quickly and use the input selector to see what it is. Word of caution, do not mess with the values in the menu (thats assuming your TV has the same service menu/access)!
