720p native vs 1080i upconverted

Has anyone had the ability to compare 720p native to a 720p that has been upconverted to 1080i?

My TV upconverts 720p to 1080i.  and I think 1080i looks better than the upconverted 720p.

I have heard all this talk about how native 720p looks better than 1080i.

Has anyone been able to compare these?
