I watched just a bit of gladiator on HDTV last night, I was blown away by the picture and the sound. So I decide to put in a DVD of a movie I havent seen before and couldnt belive the difference, now I am getting so spoiled that even DVDs are starting to underwhelm me.

I think I need help :)

I can understand the picture being better, but wasn't the sound the same (or maybe better if the DVD is in DTS)?

I know what you mean pestario, I now find myself scrutinizing the picture quality on everything I watch... even HD.   It's distracting. :)

It is distracting.  It's worth it though.

Looks like you need to upgrade the DVD player.  Bought the Samsung DVDHD931 that upconverts to 1080.  There is no compromise now when I watch a DVD vs. HD.

does it upconvert via dvi only or will it upconvert via component as well?

Maybe you can loan the upconverter to Fox.....

Seriously though, it's hard to believe that resolution that is not there can be fabricated.  This sounds like a fantasy to me.  I would think a true HD Movie will look much better than a upconverted one.

Component inputs are good to 720.  You need to use DVI to get 1080.

You'll only know for sure if you check it out.

I'm totally satisfied with my Faroudja 480P DVD player for now.  When true HD DVD's hit the market, that's when I will upgrade.  I'm glad you like the illusion.

Be cautious, I believe the Samsung requires that your DVI input be HTCP compatible.
