I see that the NHL allstar game is on today @ 2:00pm on ABC in HD. I thought I'd mention it ic case anyone is suffering from football withdraw (I know I am). Hey at least its HD sports!

Thank you for posting.  There should be a special thread here highlighting relevant HD special events coming up soon.  That would help me plan my time for these types of important viewings.  I'm not volunteering for the job though....

WKOW-DT in Madison was asleep at the switch as well.

I called their newsroom and was told they had numerous complaints from Charter Cable people.  I was told Charter where the bad guys.  I then decided to pull out my Hughes receiver and hook that up.

Same upconverted stuff, so I decided to call the chief engineer at home.  As I was talking to him, the channel switched to HD.  I could hear in the background his call to the MC.  It was not very clear on the network logs that the game would be in HD.

oops, I guess the 'B' crews are working on Sunday afternoon.

and finally!!! I'm home during an HD sports event.  (I missed all of MNF and CBS packer games and Super Bowl)

Boy, did the game look great in HD. I only caught the last half of it though.

What was with the cropped picture and the 4:3 red box in the picture? It then zoomed to 16:9 and the red box disappeared. That was weird. Anyone else see that or know what that was about?

StarvingForHDTV

Yep, I saw the red box.  I think that's what they use to feed the 4:3 SD picture.  It's probably for the camera crews to make sure they get the main action on the screen for the SD watchers.  That's my guess.
