Does anybody know what the time table is for no pattern and maybe content?

Kevin Arnold

I called a couple of weeks ago to 18 and asked what they're plans were. I got a blast of antagonism as the engineering department recognized my name and asked if I was part of this forum.  They were mad, hell they were furious about this forum and what they claimed was inaccurate information about them and about Sinclair broadcasting. I don't think I've ever heard anyone so angry. They were particularily incensed about the poll that was done here about 18's news product. I found it curious that they never felt the uge to post corrections or other information. I suspect that Sinclair has issued a memo forbidding anyone at the local level from posting.  Tom Snyder had is right when he said they can't stand it when they get feedback they can't control.  Drives them nuts. I'd love to ask them what the down side would be about clueing their viewers into what is happening. This paranoia they have is amusing and astonishing. We are their customers and they resent that. The childish attitude they have is a most curious way of treating their customers.  Insult your customers, thats the way to make money. And to you at 18 and 24......if you don't think this is fair or accurate....post your response...I dare you.......

What has been said here is nothing compared to the profanity laced tirade I received calling the Sinclair Broadcasting Engineering Dept. one day after they failed to meet the original May 1, 2002 deadline.

Cheer up. :D Their CEO prefers to fly Balt mayoral candidates in a helicopter, bribe the FCC with trips, and run a used car dealership than actually serve the community they should be serving.

I get the picture.....or should I say test patttern?

OMG!  WVTV/WCGV staff is actually reading this forum???

Its unfortunate that they aren't letting us know anything. I'm sure we wouldn't be here saying such things, but the reason we are is because we are kept in the dark about so much.

Its so unkind for them to have such attitude towards Kevin Arnold. I mean they knew right away who was on the phone when he called.

Well I suppose we will be kept in the dark!

Maybe they will keep the test pattern on indefinitely for spite!

LOL, then I guess they did see my comment asking for Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.

Please provide real Program Guide information for your 18-1 and 24-1 over the air signals.  That's polite, isn't it?

I can understand them being angry, we are rather hard on them in this forum, but if they are reading this, they have to understand... Corporate directions and mandates mean nothing to us, the viewers. All we see is that we are getting national HD (or ED) signals passed through from every network in the area except for their stations. We also receive feedback and ongoing communication with most of the other stations through representatives. But not with you. Our emails go unanswered, our calls runaround or voicemailed, and a straight answer to not be found.

I can understand a corporate mandate that you not participate in internet forum discussions (if that is the case), but don't expect me to be sympathetic. Because the bottom line is that it is you who is failing us, not us failing you. We have been patient, for almost two years, and that patience has gotten us test bars on a subchannel.

Don't be mad at us. We as the consumers have a right to demand the programming we want. That is how you get your advertisers aftera all. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at your corporate heads who have refused to give us and most of the country what we want. The corporate heads that are holding back WB HD in Milwaukee, Fox ED in Madison, ABC HD in North Carolina, and I am sure the list goes on and on... Yeah, it is a numbers game, and it may not be profitable to put through an HD feed, but when your competition, your ENTIRE competition, is doing it right there beside you, your anger just seems a tad misdirected.

John L

I agree with you 100% Borghe.

We are "accused" of inaccuracies.  Well, since they don't provide us any communication regarding the future programming of possibly HDTV and leave us sitting in the dark then all you will see is inaccuracies and invalid reports concerning WVTV and WCGV.

We wouldn't be criticizing their operations and so forth if they could give us insight of what their plans are.

A lot of people nowadays are purchasing Digital TV sets, the wide-screen high definition.  People expect to make use of the new digital tuner and are starving for High Definition programming.
We see new members join this forum EVERYDAY as noted on the bottom page here it will list "Welcome New Member".

Realize that right now most TV viewers who receive all the Milwaukee channels watch from the analog side, very few watch the digital stations.  But the number of digital viewers is on the increase while so far analog remains steady.  But when analog TV receivers are finally no longer on the market, eventually their will be a decline in analog viewers.

With those who own and operate HDTV receivers are hungry for high definition programming.  I hate to say this but from what I can tell from the forum members who post and read this board, most will watch WTMJ, WISN, WDJT, and WMVT-DT because they all provide high definition programming.  Most here won't bother watching WVTV, WCGV, WPXE, WVCY, and WMVS since all they broadcast is in Standard Definition.  I guess WMVS-DT does or has done some HD programming but when they do it they knock off some of the other channels. Some people here have posted that they wouldn't watch WVTV because the WB Network program is not delivered in HD by ch. 18 but delivered in HD by the network.

I didn't mention WITI since a good majority of people here can't receive them.  Hopefully WITI will increase their power and range, then we can watch Fox Widescreen. Course I perfer Fox go HD.

I certainly hope that is the case of WB18 and UPN24 to expect some High Definition programming soon.  I'd like to see that. I hope officials from WVTV and WCGV are reading this forum and consider someday giving us information.

Otherwise without the info, we get frustrated since we have no answers and it causes us to post our frustration.

Hate to admit saying this and I am not buttering up to WB18, but when I watch the news at 9:00pm I perfer NewsCentral over Fox 6.  Not because WB18 News is better than Fox6. To me news is news. I just perfer watching the news from another source than a major VHF outlet.  Thats just the way I am.

I'm kinda surprised you got alot of anger when you called channel 18. From my memory, 18 has gotten it very lite on here. Not Fox 6..... well let's just say Fox 6 would love to be in channel 18's boots. They've been butchered on here. At least 18 has got digital up and running!
As for 18's news. Don't really care for it. I guess it's nice to have around if you want something different. They had a segment about News Central on the News Hour on PBS a couple weeks ago. It's national central news model was looked down on by most in the story. Too national and doesn't have enough of the local feeling. If you want a hybrid national/local station, it fits the bill well. I prefer my national from the big networks and local from our hometown stations. Just my take on it.

If you've been following the news items posted on this site you would've seen that FOX has signed onto the 720p version of HD and plans to be broadcasting by the fall season on their network with close to half of the shows being in 720p.
