Does anyone know of a way to mount an antenna to the side of the roof.  For example if I wanted to mount it on top of the peak i would use a tripod, but what about on one of the sides of the roof. I am trying to appease the wife and subdivision by not having visible from the front of my house.

Give this a try, http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F003%5F001%5F003%5F004&product%5Fid=15%2D891

As long as you don't mount the antenna too high from the brackets you should be fine.

I would keep the total height above the brackets to no more than 5-7 feet.  Wind loads on the antenna and mast muct be taken into consideration.

Also the condition and type of your fascia boards should be considered.

I have that exact bracket and it works very well.  I modified them slightly to accomodate my ChannelMaster rotor, and I'm using a 10' mast with a CM 4228 antenna.  It's been up for almost 2 years, no problems at all.

Previously I had a much larger RS combo unit, and I did keep that to a 5' mast.

Key to the rigidity of the assembly is what is behind the facia boards-- I've got 2x6's.  As long as you have a 2x4, and use 5/16" or 3/8" lag bolts, you're probably ok.  It's very important to make sure the pilot holes are the correct size for the bolts you use, ensuring good thread bite.  Put a small dab of silicon near the head for sealing the entry into the facia.
