HD DirecTivo pre-order

Didn't have a chance to get a good look at one yet.  Either it's a 8000HD or 8010HD... not sure. We should begin testing tomorrow, so I'll find out for sure over the weekend if all goes as planned.  I am told the drives are at least twice as big as the ones used in the SD version, so that would put it around 140-150 gig.

IIRC the 8000HD comes with the MSOs choice of a 160GB or 250GB drive... sounds like TWC Milw is going with the 160GB one.. that will come out to between 17-22 hours of HD video. More closer to 17 hours for most channels, but closer to 22 hours for lower bitrate stuff (58).

mhz40...did you get your demo model of the HD-DVR yet?  Just curious how it's working for you.  Because you know, if you're having problems, that means it'll be that much longer until the rest of us are allowed to get one in our homes.

seen as though there is already another TWC thread, to get this one back on topic...

Robert from Value Electronics has posted some near final info.  First shipment (which I will not be apart of) goes out a week from tomorrow... those with overnight shipping will have their units as early as next thursday.

MY shipment will go out the week after that. I should have my unit by Friday April 9th with 2-day shipping.

Unless any new info comes up expect my next post in this thread to be on that saturday with some detailed impressions..

just an update.. the very first HD Tivos are being shipped out tomorrow... people should have them in their hands as early as.. well, tomorrow.. likely only a few though.. most will have them starting thursday and friday..

well, there was a small delay (again.. arrggh). however, this time the first units really are being shipped out tomorrow. Robert from Value Electronics has confirmed with DirecTV that the units are currently en route from Mexico to DirecTV's distribution center in AK. First units will be shipped Wednesday. Unfortunately because he is not shipping them personally he has no control over how many units will be shipped in a day, so it is possible that it could go as late as Thursday before every last unit from this shipment is shipped.

The good news is that production is finished on the second shipment and they are ready to be shipped in a few days from Mexico meaning I am still on track to have my unit by next Friday at the absolute latest.. well, the following Monday at the absolute latest but here is to hoping I get it by next Friday and can mess with it over the weekend and post impressions and pictures for you guys.

I'm envious....  Although my tax refund will more than cover the purchase of this, my wife thinks that starting a college fund for our daughter would be more important.  I hate to admit it, but she is right..... :bang:

oh well, the delays are turning into days instead of weeks now.. its shipment is inevitable. first shipment will go out next week (guaranteed by DirecTV, but I'll believe it when I see it). I'm on the next shipment.

current info from DirecTV is that they will now ship next week. No information has been given on the delays, and it is unusual given that there ARE units out in use right now (some retailer appreciation units, high level execs, all beta testers have production units, etc).

At this point I have honestly even stopped watching the Tivo Community forum on a regular basis.. when it ships it ships.. I hope to have it within a month, but as to actually when is anyone's guess... A month ago I sincerely thought I would be recording HDTV by now.. oh well...

I still bet I get it before any of the board members get SA8000HD's (aside from those that mhz40 is able to sneak in)

well, not quite the I have it post, but I called Value Electronics yesterday to straighten out my credit card situation (entirely me) and they have informed me that my Tivo will be shipping today. I finally went back to ground shipping after I realized I wouldn't get it before the weekend with anything other than $75 overnight.. so by monday or tuesday of next week  I should finally have this HDTV wonder in my hands....

now if only I could afford another 250GB HD before the 18th..... :p
