Hello,

Is upn and wb transmitting at low power?? I  have done everything I could and these are the only stations besides fox that I cant get.  I am getting Upn at around 20% signal strength. No picture just green pixelation.  Wb nothing at all.

You need to add the total information:  Location, antenna type and position ect.  Both UPN and WB are transmitting from the community antenna tower North of Capitol Drive and off the river.  They both have excellent signals in Cedarburg so they may not be running total licensed power but are running enough...better than 58 or 6.

I have a radioshack yagi uhf only roof mount antenna connected to a samsung ts160 hdtv receiver. I live in the oconomow area zip code 53066.  Currently receiving these stations

1-1 to 1-6   CBS-1     63%
4-1             WTMJ-DT 77%
10-1 TO 10-4             69%
12-1           WISN-DT  77%
24-1           UPN24S    20-30%
36-1           MPTV2HD  77%
55-1           WPXE DT    77%

The next question has to do with your antenna cable.  Is it RG6 (low loss) or just cheap RG59....also are they connectors factory installed or did you put them on.  I've seen some pretty bad installs but with the signal levels you've got I don't think you have a bad connector...it sounds more like you have a lot of cable loss.  If you don't have RG6 then you should upgrade to it...if you do then consider adding a 10 dB mast mounted preamp.

Take note that here:   24-1 he reads 20 to 30%.  Well 18-1 broadcasts from the same tower as 24-1, and I think also the same tower that 10-1 and 36-1 are at.  It doesn't explain why he would be getting over 70% from 10-1 and 36-1, where as 24-1 its below 30%.  Thou it is a different antenna them the ones 10 and 36 use.  Could it be the difference between the antennas being 2 feet apart???

Granted 18 and 24 probably put out a weaker signal then 10 and 36.  I guess it can make that big a difference.

Add a amp to the antenna to see if that improves it any.

I know with my set up, I have to have the antenna rotor set just right to satisfy 18-1.  Otherwise I can get other stations in stable and not 18-1.  I find 18-1 can be tricky.  Like I said, for me to get 18 in stable I have to have the antenna set at a certain point on my rotor. All other channels are stable as long as I have the antenna set approximately towards the Northeast from my Muskego location.

18 is on the air, I just checked a few minutes ago before I saw these messages checking to see if  18 is broadcasting programming in HD yet.

Gregg,

Is all RG6 low loss?  I did RG59 with my attic antenna install and don't mind buying new cable if it will tweak me up a bit.  I just don't want to buy the "wrong" cable twice.  I would also like to change my cable internet run which I used RG59 for.  Please advise if anything specific is best.  I'm thinking Home Depot is the place to buy this stuff.  Correct me if I am wrong please.

Thanks in advance,

Starving

You can get quad-sheilded cable at Radio Shack...but I would guess that maybe HD also has it.

I have always had issues with 18 and once in a great while with 24. They are both on the same tower yet 1/3 of the time I have signal lock-on issues with 18 in which I have to reposition my Radio Shack indoor HD antenna to get it in. Otherwise their signal levels are about the same to my Samsung TS-160 unit. Weird!

Home Depot does have quad shielded cable but note... you need to use quad connectors as the cable is a slightly larger diameter. I could not find these at HD. I had the cable but tried regular connectors. I jambed then onto the cable, but it turned out to be a sucky connection.

HD has RG6 by the 500' spool. Much cheaper that way.

Thank you for your help.

P.S.  I also get a weaker signal for 18 versus 24 digital.  18 for me is almost as week as 6-1.

Thanks all for your suggestions.  I went out and bought a cheap rca pre-amp from home depot.  upn signal is now at 30-45% but picture is not stable.  Some pixelation.  In the spring I will move my antenna higher and see what happens.  Right now it is on the lower corner of my roof.

I rescan my digital channels this morning and now I am receiving not only 24-1 but also 18-1,18-2, 3-1 and 3-2.  Upn signal is now at 69%.  18-1 and 18-2 at 30% with stable picture.  Hmmm either they turn up the power or this cold air is helping the signal out..3-1 is another cbs station and 3-2 is another upn.  Anyone where these channels originate???

Kevin Arnold

3-1 and 3-2 are WISC TV out of Madison on channel 50.  3-1 is the HD feed and 3-2 is the UPN channel.  They broadcast with near full power so you can get them easier. Where are you located?  I assume in the western burbs.
