Picking up a test signal on  channel 18-2 tonight.  Anyone know what the plans for this are?

Kevin Arnold

Nice find davezen2.  When I checked 18-2 it was a 1080i 16 x 9 HD feed.  Apparently they actually do have the equipment installed and are in test mode. Sinclair Broadcast Group must have won a HD transmitter in a raffle. Anyway, looks good. Only question is when they'll put up the WB programming that is HD (like Smallville).  :guns:

To be honest with you,  it never clicked in my head that the pattern was a full 16x9 HD signal.  Not something I would've expected from them.

An OTA WB HD signal in Milwaukee before most of us OTA folk can receive Fox 6 digital.  Who would have thought?!

Hmmmm...interesting.  Yeap indeed it shows as a High Definition signal on my Win-TV-D.

A check of 24 and so far just the usual.

Cross your fingers folks, mabbe will see WB programming in HD soon?

I too will be surprised if they are doing HD before WITI-TV upgrades their digital signal enough so I can receive it.  I miss watching Malcolm in the Middle in enhanced widescreen.

It would be nice to rub the noses of WITI in the accomplishments of our quaint little WB station... what are their call letters again?  heh.  I for one would start watching Angel again.  Although I still download all the FOX shows since it's the only way I can see them in WS.  Big fan of the programming, not so much with the network.

Good news, thanks for posting.

wow... shocked to say the least... well, they may have never once answered my emails, may have gotten their signal up almost a year late, may not get HDTV going until a year and a half after their parent network got it going, but frankly, if they pass HD from WB through sooner rather than later, I will just let it go.. well, sinclair will still suck, but I'll at least start watching WB18 again for more than just smallville.

Wow, I have my fingers crossed.  My wife and I always watch any WB (and UPN) off of the satellite so if they actually start broadcasting in HD it will be the first time that I have watched channel 18 in years.  Makes me want to go see what other shows they have that I have never seen so that I can check them out.

Right now its just a color generator test pattern.  I hope it does mean something. Sure would be nice!

I wouldn't hold my breath yet thou.

In their program guide data, it definitely sounds like they are getting ready to pass along the WB HD feed.  For those of you with OTA only receivers that get the guide data over the air.  I don't know what the DirecTV or DISH Network guide data says.

Thats one thing about my Hauppauge Win-TV-D is that it doesn't receive the program data guide which I assume is the TV station's programming schedule that TV stations apparently broadcast over their DTV transmitter.  Eventually some year I will afford, plus be able to accomodate a HDTV set.  I would have to tear down my bookshelf and get a plasma set so I can hang it up on the wall.  I don't have much room right now. I also have lots of stuff in my room I am currently selling on eBay which will also help in raising a few grand to get a receiver. Right now I have a 27" TV, certainly a HDTV set will take up at least 8 times the space!
I don't have the room most of you guys have. However I live in a small house, not the big mansion type homes like they have in Champions Village in Muskego.

Even if Channel 18 finally comes around and sends its digital OTA signal out with HD when the network programmes come on and it's not at full power, Time Warner Cable will be sure to have it in their HD local lineup...
I'm thinking they will assign it to Channel 518...like 504 is to HD channel 4 on their system...but I guess contracts and negotiations will have to take place first.
But the push has to be on as this is, after all, Warner Bros. television, a unit of Time Warner, Inc. and they must be frustrated with Sinclair's progress (or lack of) in getting their  HD signals out to viewers after doing their part to get HD programming on their network.:(

All we can do is wait and hope this testing turns out to be HD for at least the network-produced fare...soon.:D

I don't want to sound like or be an idiot.  But I checked with someone from another board who happens to be a high school student who is aware that 2 Sinclair stations in Greensboro, NC has been transmitting Color Bars in their HD channel while broadcasting its programs in their SD channel since they signed the DTV stations on the air 2 years ago.  I guess to this day they still running Color Bars on the HD side.  The stations are WXLV (ABC) and WUPN (UPN).  Unfortunately those people have been missing out on MNF in HD, were soo lucky WISN has been good to us.

So I hope this doesn't mean WVTV is gonna sit there transmitting a Color Bar in HD for the next couple years.

Don't want to get anyone upset or put a dagger on our topic, BUT I don't trust Sinclair Broadcasting.

As for WVTV to start HD programming, and IF and when the day comes I will be surprised!

I don't know why they or anyone else would want to sit there and broadcast nothing but Color bars all this time.  Obviously they aren't making money doing that.  It just burns money up using energy that could be used for something useful. What they should do is talk to me first, because if they want to spend their money airing color bars 24/7...I know a much better way that they should spend their money.  I could use the money!

DirecTV just says "Regular Schedule."

18-2 has only existed for a short period of time.  There is no reason to jump to the conclusion that it will turn in to a permanent color bar situation.

The channel information is as follows:

18-1 WB 18 SD
"DTV Program"

18-2 WB 18 HD
"Testing HD Encoder for WB -W"

To me, that sounds promising.  Heck, they even went through the trouble to build program guide data going forward.  I hope they tag their HD programming in the guide like 4-1 does.  That is nice.
