Okay, Monday night football.  I watched on WKOW in Madison and was quite pleased with their signal.  The broadcast was an up convert to 1080i 16x9, and I found it to be quite pleasing, for an up convert.  The close up shots were very sharp and the standard field of play shots were very good also.  I switched between WKOW and WISN and it wasn't even close.  Now if only MNF will broadcast in HD.

ReesR

WLS digital from Chicago had the same upconvert as well.  It looked pretty dang good to me as well.

Did anyone catch the WLS broadcast of the 49ers and Seahawks?

I tuned in at halftime, and they seemed to be overcropping the screen.  The game-clock and score thing up in the corner was half off the screen, and nothing I could do to adjust on my end made a differance.

Was that a mistake on there end?  Or is that the only way to upconvert?

Sorry, I didn't catch the game...  Can't remember what I was doing...

What's sad is that MNF WAS in HD a few seasons back, when there were only a half dozen ABC stations broadcasting in HD.. but now that that there are more HD stations than were viewers during that season, it's SD... go figure...

Well it doesn't help for this year, but MNF will be all HD in the 2003-4 season.---- GS kid

What do you guys do to pick up Chicago and Madison stations?  Can I buy a large antenna to get these stations in Germantown?  Any recommendations?

ReesR

I live in Racine so I can take advantage of being between Milwaukee and Chi-town.  See my signature which has the antennas I am using.  I don't need a rotator because they are bi-directional North/South.  Makes for good channel scanning on digital receivers.

I'm using a 4 bay bow tie from Channel Master and I live on the far west side of Waukesha.  I think your location has a lot to do with your ability to pick up distant stations.

I live on 90th and National, which is almost at the top of the long slope down to the lake.  And I have a large Yagi style UHF antenna mounted on the chimney of a two and a half story duplex, with a rotor, and I use a cheap signal amplifier.

It is a very directional antenna, and I have found that a little finesse goes a long way when trying to get the distant stations.

It also seems as though the Chicago stations come in better at night.  I don't know if WLS boosts their signal for primetime, or if it has to do with other natural effects, but I definitely get a better signal during prime time.

From the WISN Press release:

"ABC will also broadcast the most-watched sporting events of 2003, including the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup and Monday Night Football in HDTV."

However, it should be enjoyable to watch Brett Favvvvvvvvvvvrrrrrrrrrrrrrre limp around in 720p this Monday.

Tom Snyder

I'd LOVE to see Brett in 720, unfortunately this Monday will only be an 1080i upconvert of 4:3 480...

Like all the MNF games are this year

I think that most of us who get our locals OTA still appreciate the availability of an upconvert vs analog. Hats off to PAUL and WISN for their contribution

And thanks to Madden for making the move from Faux to ABC - otherwise, we might be waiting a LOT longer than 2003 to see him (and Brett)in HD
