WISN-TV is broadcasting the ABC presentation of the 1965 box office hit "The Sound of Music" starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer and it is in High Definition!!!!

Surely on the analog side its just the regular standard picture, but those with HDTVs are getting the unedited version as was shown in the theatres in 1965.  I believe they used Cinemascope in those days, back when they use to shown films wide in theatres.  I am glad they are taking advantage with the new technology we have today.

Well, ok!!  Perhaps not in true HD.  More like Widescreen unlike how they showed it on analog which was just standard def.  I wonder if the credits got cut off on the analog side.  Because you need to view the credits in widescreen.

TV Networks can re-air old movies that were cinemascope or wide screen and air them over the digital unedited.

In the case of "Sound of Music" it was edited on the analog side, but unedited on the digital side.  Thanks for the technology, I wish it came 30 years ago!

I got a blue light on my receiver as well which means that it was broadcast in DD5.1.

At the same time CBS was also showing The Wild Wild West in HD as well.
