I am one of those OAR (original aspect ratio) zealot purists on AVS and Home Theater Forum, etc., and I want to give a HUGE KUDOS to WISN for OAR Bugs Life, in HD and with 5.1 audio no less. BRAVO....BRAVO!!! I take back right now anything negative I've ever said about WISN in the past. Every HD broadcasting station could learn a thing or two from WISN.
Again, if any WISN station managers are browsing the forum...thank you and keep up the good work. I look forward to more movies in OAR, and the upcoming Superbowl!

I wanted to compare DVD to the HD broadcast and I noticed that the DVD presentation had black bars slightly larger than the HD broadcast.  I wasn't too concerned about it, but it seemed significant enough that I noted it in my mind but never verified it.  If I am correct, and that is a big IF, I believe that the presentation wasn't actually the original aspect ratio but was pretty close.

For those of you in the know on this topic, does the network have equipment that can adjust the amount of cropping their presentation uses or would they even do this?

Overscan would most likely be different on the two different inputs: DVD and HD.  So its possible that difference you saw was due to that rather than differences in the transfer.
