I see that "Backdraft" will be on ABC.  This would be nice to see in HD.

"A Bugs Life" on Sunday should be good, too.  We have both of these on DVD and they're quite enjoyable.

Since Sunday is their "official" start, I'm not optimistic.  Does anybody know?

I dunno, but if they're not on the air till Sunday, how did I see Push Nevada last night?

"Push, Nevada" was on last week too, but no signal all weekend.

Anyway, "Backdraft" *was* shown and was very nice.  Thanks, 12.

During Backdraft I saw several promos for Bug's Life... even in Upconverted SD, it looked prety good. HD Bug's Life should be pretty sweet...

I caught most of Backdraft also.  I thought the picture quality was excellent.  The sound quality was superior as well.  I still don't understand why CBS and NBC do not send the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio signal.  It's so much better, in my opinion.  Especially for movies.

I discovered an interesting thing about the analog broadcast of Backdraft.  I happened to be in a position to hear the 5.1 tracks and the analog sound, and found that the surround channels and probably the LFE channel were not being broadcast on the analog channel at all.

I assume this is done so the network can work with just a single transfer (the HD 5.1) and that they can't or don't bother mixing the missing channels back down to the single stereo one.  If that's the case, I suspect the 4:3 framing would be a mere crop as well, but I didn't check that.
