The 811 / CBS thing isn't going away very soon:

As far as the Superdish, keep calling and scheduling - Dish CSR's aren't any better than any others. Expect to experience some reschedules by the local installers - the Superdish is still in very short supply around here.

And keep up with all the latest Dish news at SatelliteGuys.us

I kinda thought that might happen ...

hey Tim, back to your cbs dillema...  Dan the Man's Hughes receiver can get 58.1 because the hughes uses an 'advanced programming guide' that downloads from directv.  It remaps digital channels to the #.1, #.2..... of the analog channel.  try typing 46.1, 46.2, 46.3

Madison channels on dish has been happening for at least a month now, the lack of super dishes is also an issue.

Just talked to Dish on (8:30 am 12/18/03)

Feb 20 I will get the super dish antenna installed and have milwaukee locals.

To get it free you must sign up for one year of America's top 50 and one year of credit card auto pay.

Dish was quick getting the HD 811 installed. less then a week and I see others online have delays getting the 811. So it's kind of a push.

QuoteHey - you are in Bayside... Maybe you can get 6.1 with the right antenna. Could be worth a try.
I pointed my OTA antenna toward fox and away from the other towers and did get a lock of 60 percent but when viewing 6 it breaks up so I still need to do more. I do loose PBS 36 when I made the change. I have a radioshack VU-75XR antenna in the garage and will move it outside. Anyone want to install it for me?;)

thanks for the tip but I have no option to type in 46.1 This is a problem in other cities and other broadcasters have picked channel 1.1 So the only fix is broadcasters move the channel or Dish rewrites the software and use a different way to select the pass through video inputs. :bang:

Does the 121 deg location carry HD also, or will I need to get 61.5 also if/when I decide to spend way too much on an 811 or 921?  I think I have clear site to 121, but 61.5 (where I expected locals to come from east of the Miss.) is behind a tree.

I just don't trust installers.  I want to put my own dish up.  :(   I also don't trust Dish with credit card auto pay due to past bad experiences with them.  It's been a few years with no more problems, but I'm still reluctant.  Once bitten, twice shy you know.

QuoteDoes the 121 deg location carry HD also,

My system is at satellite 119 west and gets HD channels. It's a Dish 500 antenna and when the tech installed the HD 811 monday he put in new LNBFs Dish Pro and ran a second cable into the house. I will have to get a superdish antenna to get the local feeds off the satellite. 121 sound like the satellite that the locals are on but not sure.

jkane,

As of a week or two ago you do not need the 61.5 dish for HD (with the newer receivers) because Dish has begun to mirror the HD channels that were on 61.5 onto 110.  The locals are on 121, which you need the superdish to see.  So, as of their current plans, I can take down my 61.5 dish and you will never need one.  I don't know when they will stop broadcasting HD on 61.5 but I will need to get the 8PSK before then.

That's great news!  Glad I don't have to find LOS to 61.5.  :)  With HD on 110, I'm all set already.

I heard that the SuperDish is not fully compatable with older receivers.  I have an old 2000 (w/ original dish only seeing 119) and a 3000 and 501 on a Dish500 pointed to 119 and 110.  I guess I could swap the old dish with the dish500 to supply the 2000 with both locations it can use.  Then a superdish could feed the 501.  But what I saw didn't look like the superdish can feed a 3000 model.

(Maybe this should be a new thread?  Not sure of the rules since I'm new to this board.)

Well I just talked to Dish.  I have a 510 on the way and Superdish install February 26th.  I took the 2 year commitment to get the 510 for free but elected to pay $25 rather than commit to CC autopay since that makes me a little nervous too.  I wanted to order my 8PSK enhanced HD module for the 6000 but he could not bring that area up without giving him errors so I will have to call back.  Hopefully I can replace to 6000 with the 921 in the future but for now I will just get the module.

I would rather not have to wait another two months for local channels but I have waited years already and hopefully CBS will be on by then.  I have been happy with Dish for at least 5 years so a two year commitment isn't too bad.

jkane - You are probably right that this should have been a new thread.  I hope anyone who might be offended will please accept my humble apologies.

Timothy - You're going to have a Superdish 6 days before me.  I am jealous.  May our installers be competent and the weather be in our favor.

OK I got my samsung DLB bulb replaced today. With the dish 811 pushing HD to it man oh man it looks fabulous. All is not rosy, I talk to dish about the TOSlink optical audio and my 811 is defective and they will send me a replacement 811. I did not get any dolby digital 5.1 sound. And pro-logic sound only drove the center speaker.

Packers party Monday night game on DTV 12.

Timothy Kramer

UPS dropped off my replacement 811 yesterday the 23rd of December. And the TOSlink optical audio is not working so I called Dish. Now they are sending me a 3rd 811. I said if the optical is not working I want my money back and they can come and get all 3 units sitting in the garage.

With the first 811 not working I ask if they test the units before shipping them out. The tech said yes. BS

I have a DVR 501 receiver and today I ordered a PPV movie with DD. the 501 TOSlink works. I unplug the TOSlink from the 501 into the 811 and order the same PPV movie and no sound at all. I have  the dish system setup DD only and DD/PCM only no sound. In PCM only my center speaker has sound not left, not right, not rear right or left, only the center and sub. This was the exact same problem with the first 811. Yes the RCA analog source out of the 811 works. And yes I know how to switch my AV receiver from analog to digital. The Onkyo receive front display says "Dolby Digital" or "Pro-logic" or Analog. I know Dolby Digital 5.1 and have tested my system with the Avia DVD.

And the sammy DLP set got it's 2nd bulb replacement but the tech could not get into the service menu. He called samsung and will have to order more parts. A balast, a fan, and a computer board. So he's coming back.

The packers on MNF OTA looked very very good. Some day I will get all this equipment work as it should. Or it will kill me.

Does a similar phenomon occur with the Smasung TS160.  Still looking for CBS from west bend.  Getting everything else but Fox with signal strength of 50% or better.  Getting ABC and NBC at 100%

Hi guys (and ladies - if any are reading this).

I've been a long-time lurker, but this is my first post.  The 811 is my first, permanent HDTV receiver.  I've had a Zenith 420 and Motorola HDT-100.  Both went back to the store.

Anyway, I've been bummed thinking that I'm going to miss the Super Bowl because of this stupid channel 1 problem, so I decided to come up with a solution.

I originally posted this information on the Satellite Guys website.  Here's a link to it:

Temporary Fix for Dish 811 Channel 1.1 Mapping Problem

I hope this helps someone else out.  I know what I'll be doing Sunday!

Great find, Scott! Saw your post over at satelliteguys (also a member there) and jumped right over here to see if you were sharing with the "locals":)

And, welcome aboard!!!
