CBS 1.1 conflicts with dish 811

got my first HD receiver last night and was able to get all channels locked but one, yes FOX.

The other problem is with CBS 58 DTV signal locks but the channel 1 is used by my Dish network HD 811 receiver. The box has 2 RCA inputs for pass through and the program guide uses channel 1 to switch between the 2 inputs. Why would CBS use 1.1 and can anyone thing of a solution?

BTW dish just told my Milwaukee locals will be added tomorrow the december 17th. And here is the kicker the only local it will not broadcast is you guest it CBS 58. Why maybe the 1.1 channel is already being used. How knows?

thanks

On my Hughes HD Direct TV box, I can get CBS on 1.1 AND 58.1

Maybe you can manually add in 58.1 and get it to work.

Hey - you are in Bayside... Maybe you can get 6.1 with the right antenna. Could be worth a try.

Good idea to try it set the DTV channel manually. So I plugged in all Transmit channels 1-69 and CBS 58 only came in on Transmit 46 which gives me channel number 1.1 (i have no option to change 1.1)  This is really Dish networks fault for using a channel number for a system set-up. I talked to the tech at Dish but he could not do anything. I should have told him to rewrite the software.

What Transmit channel do you get the 58.1 channel on?

I will later work on FOX and it might just be pointing the antenna toward the broadcast tower.

Fox was off the air last night.  Maybe they are moving the antenna to the tower.

I would say this is definitely not DISH's fault.

CBS is not supposed to be on 1.1 and if it wasn't for some begging to the former HiPix opensource team I would have lost it forever on the HiPix as well. Hopefully, once they learn that they're not gaining any viewers by pissing off the viewership they'll correct this once and for all.

Good I was thinking it's my fault for having poorly designed dish network equipment. The engineer at CBS still hasn't called me back and I suspect he won't. I'll call again and ask for the guy who decided to use channel 1.1

The question is who determines the DTV channels for the local broadcasters? So is CBS 58 still upset about moving from 6 to 58? Do you remember when Fox came to town?

REALLY!!!  I wonder when they will tell the rest of us so we can get them.  You would think it would be a big enough deal that those of us who subscribe in the area should be told so they can sell them to us.  I assume we will have to pay extra to recieve them.

Five ninety nine is the cost when it comes. Just got off the phone with Dish (9-am) and not yet. She said to watch for the announcement in advertisements (newspaper, TV commercials, ect.) Or one could keep calling 1800 333-dish or visit the web site.

So the tech that installed my 811 might be off by a day or 2. Maybe a week or 2. I've been waiting for YEARS!!!

Charlie did say end of year a long time ago.  That usually means late spring.  :p  I keep checking the web site.  I get a lot o finterference on 4 and 6 at various times of the day.  So, I'm looking forward to locals over the dish.  Besides, I have a 501, so I can then start recording local programming when my wife is hogging the TiVO for her local shows.  ;)

I have been calling dish for a week or more now to find out when they would get the locals.  Every CSR has been so clueless that it is frustrating.  Last night I talked to one who went away and came back saying that the locals would be up on Friday but you could not order them before then.

The kicker is that they will be on the 121 satellite (which I knew, she had no clue) so you will need the superdish.  Now the line is that the superdish cannot be self installed and installation usually takes about 3 weeks.  I told her that I had heard rumors from the web and other Dish CSR's that superdish installs were not available in some areas until March or even August.  She said it depended upon your area, she had just booked one for a different area in Wisconsin for the nearest date... in July 2004.

I need to buy the enhanced HD module for my Dish 6000 and I plan to get a 510 DVR once I have the locals but personally I am waiting to see how the locals thing plays out before I commit myself further to Dish.  Time Warner Cable seems to have gotten better since I swore I would never have cable again and I do have them for Earthlink high speed.  I hate the idea of analog channels on a big screen though.  DirectTV is good but there are just as many reasons for not going to them as not switching to cable.  Hopefully everything works out with Dish but if they try giving me an install date into next summer I am going to have to explore my options... possibly bribing a local installer

Now hold on to your pants. I just tried to order it tonight and the CSR said to call back tomorrow then Dish will set me up. So all you eager beavers like me must wait a few more hours.

RobbQ

Thanks Timothy, please keep us updated.  I for one am a little tired of calling and getting a different story each time.  I am holding my breath to find out when they can do an install of the superdish.  Hopefully we have enough installers in the area to make for a short wait.

(Fingers crossed),
Robb
