Does anyone know if the Rose Parade this year will be in HDTV on any of the TWC channels?  I didn't have a HDTV last year so would like to watch it in HD if possible this year.

Thanks

Gregg Lengling

The Rose Parade will be broadcast on ABC, NBC, CBS, Univision, HGTV, Telemundo, Travel Channel, Discovery HD and KTLA in the Los Angeles area. The Parade is also seen in 28 countries around the world. Magnificent floral floats, spirited marching bands, and talented equestrian units will anchor a traditional two-hour spectacle along Pasadena's famed Colorado Boulevard.

KTLA normally does it in HDTV, they are the WB affiliate in LA.  However they don't have any mention of whether they will be doing it again this year...but they have for the past 4 years.  I don't know who might pick it up from them.  I wouldn't hold my breath as the big 3 (NBC, ABC, CBS) will probably use their own feeds and HGTV has it on cable/sat....so I don't see Discovery or HDNET or anyone picking it up.

Got this from AVS forums:

Ktla & Wgn-tv To Air Rose Parade In Hdtv
Hey everyone!

Watch the the 114th Tournament of Roses Parade on Wednesday, January 1, 2003 on KTLA (Los Angeles), Channel 5 and in HDTV on KTLA-DT (Channel 31), coverage begins at 8 a.m. with commentary from veteran KTLA host Bob Eubanks (his 26th consecutive year) and Stephanie Edwards (her 22nd consecutive year).

For the 5th consecutive year, KTLA will be the only station in Southern California to produce and air the Rose Parade in high definition television (HDTV).

Also, sister-station WGN-DT Ch. 19 (Chicago) will broadcast a portion of the the 114th Rose Parade live on Wednesday, January 1 from 10am to 12:30pm.

The following Tribune Broadcasting stations will carry the Parade live on their digital channels: WGN-Chicago; WBDC-D.C.; WXIN-Indianapolis; KSWB-San Diego and KTWV-Seattle. Tribune's KHWB-Houston will carry the Parade live on its analog and digital channels.

KTLA is one of six designated Superstations and thus the Parade will be seen regionally and across the United States live reaching approximately 5 million homes in cities such as Buffalo, Memphis, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Nashville, among others.

Discovery HD! on the DISH Network will carry the Parade live in HDTV. Internationally, the Rose Parade will be shown in HDTV on CityTV/Toronto, Canada's first digital TV station

Unfortunately I don't live in LA anymore (I can tell you if you have not seen it in person it is quite a sight to see) so looks like my best bet on TWC is DiscoveryHD.  Do they show it live or later in the day?  Usually starts at like 7AM (Pacific).

The listing should be on titantv.com by the end of the week.  Check discoveryhd listing, but I'd bet it's live.

Thanks  I will check out those listings..

From AVS Forums:

Direct from DiscoveryHD...

On New Year's Day, Discovery HD Theater will offer the only nationally televised live high definition broadcast of the 2004 Tournament of Roses Rose Parade from Pasadena, Calif. No more grainy pictures and crackly commentary .. in HD, viewers across the nation will see every petal on those famous floral floats! Live broadcast is New Year's Day from 11 am to 1:30 pm (ET), with a pre-parade show from 9 - 11 am (ET).

Someone from AZ posted this:

I just got word from my local CBS affiliate that the Tournament of Roses Rose Parade will be carried by CBS.

E-mail:

Actually, I just got a programming update from CBS that shows the Tournament of Roses Parade in HD on Thursday 1/1/04 at 9am.

Jim Hall, GM of CBS 58 does visit this site from time to time. Perhaps he could enlighten us as to what he'll have on New Year's morning.

I sure hope it is one of the "real HD" channels that shows it.  I'd like to see it in 1080i if possible.
