Hello!

First off, I'm a projection TV/HD noob. My fiance and I impulse bought a brand new Toshiba 51" Widescreen without the built in tuner (51H83) last weekend. I was curious about adjusting the convergence- there's an Auto-Focus feature on it that will fix convergence issues automatically. Weird thing is, after I use it, I look at the screen that allows you to manually fix it and everything seems kinda off (crosses will have the red 'glow' to one side and whatnot). If anyone knows any good tips on how to kickstart this sucker, please, post!

Also, I just ordered digital cable. Will the images seem as lifelike as everyone says? Some people have said that its almost like you're able to touch the people on screen.

Thanks for your help, and I look foward to many more posts!:D

Forgot something- Do I need to adjust the convergence for each input (DVD, cable, VCR)?

I think auto convergence is a very good ballpark to start with, but manual tweaking may be needed. In addition, some sets have fewer user-adjustable convergence 'tweaks' than others, making perfect convergence harder to obtain. The focus could also be off on the red gun or simply off in the far corners of the display.  Also make sure you are not driving the picture too hard... keep the picture control below 75% to reduce CRT blooming.
No, you don't have to set convergence for each input. The convergence settings are adjustments to the alignment of the tubes, which is independent of input selection.

If you just got the tv wait untill you've watched for several hundred hours to break it in

I hope you meant hd service and not digital cable, there is a difference. Just make sure your contrast is below 50 and do not converge tv unless it has been warmed up for at least a half hour.Good luck!

Don't know why you'd spend the money for a Hi Definition TV, and not get High Definition service...  the HD box doesn't cost any more monthly than a digital box, I believe...

Now I'm confused...

According to Time-Warner, it is digital/HD (at least local channels and Discovery).
Here, check this out-

Time Warner has these three things:

1.) Standard Digital Cable Boxes

2.) Digital Cable Boxes with HD

3.) Customer service representatives who don't know the difference.

lol! I see what you mean. I have the right box now.

Sad thing is, I'm taking the Tosh back and gettin this-
Sony 51" Widescreen HD-Ready Rear-Projection TV w/ DVI Input & 2-Tuner PIP

Model: KP-51WS510

The cable guy just aboot crapped himself when he saw the red tint and noticed the convergence wont, well, converge properly. So, an extra hundred gets me a Sony. If anyone thinks it's crap, tell me now; it's all we can afford :(
