I am sure some of you have caught the Dutton Family Christmas running near continuous on the PBS loop. I use this station as background noise while I am coding at home (its an obsession, and the station breaks - the goldfish, war letters guy, etc. - help me break away from programming) so I've had an opportunity to view/listen to this a number of times.

My comments:

- I think they are very talented musicians, although not an attractive group as a whole.

- When the babies first came on I got that butterfly-in-the stomach bad-joke embarrased for humanity feeling from the tacky-ness of the scene, but I suppose the Branson crowd eats it right up. Barf.

- The men are lousy vocalists, but the women are pretty decent (and the one can really yodel, which I imagine is harder than it appears)

- I saw a lot of kids in the audience. I don't know about you but if I was a kid and my folks dragged me to Branson, MO for a vacation I'd file for emancipation as soon as we got back home.

I like more "non-traditional" Christmas music like "Christmas at Ground Zero" and "Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire" (//www.somafm.com - Xmas In Frisco) so I may be a little jaded.

Any observations to give me a chuckle would be greatly appreciated.

I looked at the schedule and this show is going to be on over a hundred times.

Be still my heart!

Hey.....we ended up in Branson a few years ago for a family vacation. My kids loved it !! It really, really reminded me of the Dells, only set in the Ozark mountains. Actually if you are ever in Branson with the kids...definitely check out Silver Dollar City...a 1800's based theme park that's a cross between Great America and a waterpark. Was a total blast that I actually wouldn't mind doing again.  And it was pretty neat seeing how they made things only using tools and techniques from the 1800's.
I am not, however, a country music fan AT ALL, so there isn't a whole lot of music choices to choose from.
