The National Hockey League and HDNet announced the initial slate of high-definition game broadcasts as part of a 65-game HDTV schedule for the current 2002-03 season.

The first game to be aired in HDTV this season will be Sunday's Minnesota Wild-Colorado Avalanche matchup.

'Fans who watched last year's NHL games on HDNet have confirmed that HDTV captures all the excitement of NHL action,' NHL executive vice president and chief operating officer Jon Litner said in a release.

Added HDNet cofounder and president Mark Cuban, 'Our partnership provides great programming for HDNet viewers and positions both the NHL and HDNet as leaders in high-definition sports.'

HDNet produces its NHL broadcasts in conjunction with several Fox Sports Net regional outlets, sharing audio and graphics with FSN's standard-definition production units.
