For some of you who live in the far SouthWest suburbs like I do (Fontana,WI), you may be interested in the following response from WTVO-DT (ABC-channel 16) in Rockford:

Thanks for checking in, Ron. WTVO is currently testing WTVO DT16. We hope to
be on the air with our digital Monday, October 28th.

Here's more information on another Rockford Station-WREX54- NBC:

"WREX-DT is currently running at 55,000 watts.  This will be our power level until after 2006.  Congress passed a bill several years ago, in which it states there will not be any TV channels above channel 50.  So WREX will have to purchase another DT transmitter for the new channel when the FCC grants us our new channel (which will be full power).  Unfortunately there isn't a big channel selector on our DT transmitter, most of the components are also frequency specific.

According to our coverage maps you should be able to receive WREX-DT.  It is channel 54.  We are also running software so most receivers tune it in at 13-1.  Our programing info embedded in the channel won't be running until sometime next year.  Operating hours are 6:00am to 12:35am seven days a week."

Kudos to Gerry Meinders- Chief Engineer for an honest response
