Question about PIP

I would like to use the PIP feature on my new TV.
I have 1 cable box (HDTV, TWC) and someone suggested by using a splitter I should be able to get PIP using 1 box.  Does this sound right? Will the splitter reduce the signal or do I have to get another cable box like TWC says?

Also, if I use a splitter..How do I connect it?
Thanks,

Yes.  Install a splitter just before the cable box.  Use one output of the splitter to feed the cable box and the other to feed the antena input of your TV.  The splitter should be spec'd to pass 5MHz-1GHz and have very good RF shielding.
Some TV's won't let you do PIP with one source being HD...  The rest on how to actually make this work is between you and your owners manual, so cuddle up with it next to the fireplace this weekend.

The Law

Be carefull with the splitters.  I had to remove one that a field tech put in place for PIP that caused signal loss caused audio dropouts
