Here's the question and some back ground , Have a freind just bought a Samsung 50" DLP T.V.. Set it up for him he has DTV, and OTA, HD. He also bought a Samsung DVD player which is the best I have seen to date. After all was set up and he said I got this VCR should I hook ity up, I said hey why not picture sucks but the kids might want to watch something, after it was hooked up ran a tape , took out tape and there was the blue screen, ONE burnt out pixel dead center of the screen. Is this normal or should he return it , the place he bought it from said 1 to 5 is normal, he is waiting cause if he exchanges it , will he have two not one, problem is now that he knows it is there he looks for it. Any input is welcome thanks

DLPs don't use LCD panels.

What you have there is a stuck micro mirror. Get the TV replaced.

Thanks for advice, I will let him know. When you look at screen up close it is a dot , so I assumed it was a pixel. He called the place he got it from . It's local and has a good rep here , the manager said not much he can do and problem was normal , don't want to mention name cause it's not my T.V. and anybody can make a mistake. But he is still with in the 15 day period to return so I will suggest it to him . Thanks again.

try to get it replaced... however, I'm not sure with DLP, but with LCD and plasma their is usually an allotment of bad pixels that will not fall under warranty. so say you have one or two bad pixels on an LCD, that low number isn't usually covered under warranty and will thus be at the stores discretion.

If a DLP does not use pixels and uses micro mirrors he should be ok, Also there is a 15 day no questions return policy. So I told my buddy to return it not exchange it, that way he won't run into a warrenty issue, till after he is satified. Thanks again.

If the dealer refuses to replace it, call Samsung support. I have heard they have been very receptive to customer complaints.

My buddy , e-mailed Samsung, this was followed by a phone call from them to him, within 24 hours. Samsung did not like how he was treated by dealer, and told him if he wanted he could take it back there. He just asked to get it fixed and will do so on Tuesday,  rep said this is not LCD, not RPTV, this is a work of art and no ,he should not have to put up with even one black dot, they would fix it or replace it. For the long time I have bin buying A/V stuff that is the most responive I have even seen. They even said to him," it is a known problem and that it could and would be fixed." Just owning up to a flaw, is refreshing to me. Will bottom line is at this point he is happy and hopefully the spot will get fixed as well. Just wanted to spread some good C/S as most things that are read are complaints not praise, thanks for all the reponses.

Place he got it from, took very good care of him in the end, he went to speak to a manager, I guess the first guy he talked to was not the right person to talk to. A service man came out , ,fixed it in home and tweeked it also. Part that was replaced was a mirror, that is 5/8 x 1 and 3/8. Has all the micro mirrors on it he said that you would not be able to see problem with out a micro scope. This same piece is where the entire picture comes from very cool. Thanks again for all the feed back.
