Tom-
If you have the SA set top, only use component for HD.  Switch to composite or S-Vid for SD.  No need to do this on a Pioneer.

I got the Pioneer box... How would I use the switcher you linked to?

I need to plug my cable box, my DVD player and my RCA DTC-100 into a 3-in, one-out that will send the RGB signal into the front end of a single 20 foot monster cable run to the TV. It needs to be remote-controllable so that when I want to switch from watching a channel on DTV to Channel 506 on the cable box (the ONLY thing I really got it for) that the macro on my remote control will activate the switch.

The one I got at Rat Shack has a very cool programmable switcher. Too bad the signal degradation sucks so bad.

My challenge here is to find one that has no signal degradation, but costs less than $200... is there such a thing?

No, not the HD-PVR.  Nothing available on that yet.... not even a beta test date. I'm just checking out a new HD capable set top.

Sorry, I just got thrilled over a new HD box.
Thanks for the information.:)

The whole thing about cable service is there are no contracts, expensive equipment to buy (nor it becoming obsolete or malfunctioning) with the subscriber "holding the bag". All the cable company asks if that you treat their equipment with care and return it for another (hopefully) product when it malfunctions or gets in a newer model.
If there is a way I can help TWC beta test the HD PVR like I did RoadRunner awhile ago, tell me how this can be accomplished. As you can see, 2 boxes (one HD and DVR per HDTV set) is better than four, and a whole lot less "balancing" for TWC to go through on their end to keep my equipment running.;)

Thanks in advance, mhz40!

I was just wondering what your cable setup was like using a DVR and 3510HD cable box on the same tv? (cable in to DVR - out to 3510HD - in to tv??)  What restrictions have you encountered? I thought the DVR was also a cable box as well?? So you must be using the 3510hd for HD and the DVR for everything else?

Hey Tom,
These might be right up your alley:

I have one cable outlet for each (or you can use one cable outlet with a splitter like a friend of mine does). Each cable box individually sends a video signal from the back of it directly to the HDTV:  A component output from HD box to the back of the TV's component-video HD input (plus there is an additional one there for the DVD-component input) and S-Video from  the DVR-which IS a cable box by itself- to the back of the TV's S-Video input.  Then the coaxial digital sound leads from each individual box come into the surround receiver/amp for sound. Everytime I want picture and sound from the individual cable boxes I have to ask the TV and amp to switch. In my Pioneer setup, the amp switches the picture automatically with the sound with a press of my Pronto remote. ;) If you backup the picture on the DVR when you switch the analog channels for a second or two, more of a digital sound (think: louder) comes out of the DVR for better surround-processing than if you try hooking up extra RCA stereo jacks from the boxes as I found those jacks weak in signal. Just a thought!

Hope this helps...if and when we get the HD PVR-it will mean one connection for video and sound each, not four, per HDTV, and the TWC "balancing act" on their end will be easier...sometimes I have to call them for a "rebalancing" on their end,  like when I exchanged my SA3100HD for the 3510HD.:(
