Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for my dillema.  I have large channel master antenna in my attic for HD- reception. I cant get cbs or fox and I live in Waterford.  Will it make a big differance if I move the antenna onto my roof? Also what good products are out there that are reasonably priced which could improve the signal strength?

Gregg Lengling

It may help with CBS but it won't with Fox.  CBS is running low power at 10KW ERP from a high antenna.  FOX however is running flea power from their Studio tower at a height of 125' and I don't think there is more than a handful of members on this board that can receive it.

However, Fox is supposed to move to their big tower this fall.  But I'm not holding my breath.

I live in waterford.  The Channelmaster I have is on a 10' Tripod and I never have a problem.

That is except for fox.  That's hopless.

Can you guys get Fox 32-1 out of Chicago down there?

It appears I am able to lock in a part of their signal here in Muskego with the antenna pointed towards Chicago, but not enough yet to get it fully locked in and a picture.  But I am getting a weak digital signal on ch. 31 which I assume WFLD-DT is broadcasting on.  I can get the analog in fairly decent.  Thou I am considering replacing my outdoor antenna since it is old and parts of the antenna are bent.  I am going to replace it with a larger one in hopes to receive WFLD-DT.

Tom,

Finally found out my flicker problem and discovered a bad connector on the coax going into the power supply for the amplifier. It made a huge difference in the quality of reception.

That also improve my receiving the digital signal on ch. 31 which identified on the set as "WFLD-DT".  Thou the digital signal comes in broken up. Hopefully by adding a larger antenna will bring the signal in error correction free. But that is long distance and I believe WFLD-DT is putting out 1,000 kW according to my TV database I have.

BTW: of what I can tell this program that WFLD-DT was carrying by Fox was being aired in High Def. as it is appearing in widescreen.

Nope, FAUX only broadcasts in "enhanced" widescreen 480p for now. I do believe that some FOX  stations upconvert to 1080i, but that is still NOT high definition.

Here is what I got from Fox 6.  Any comments?

"WITI is presently re-enforcing our tall tower to accept the new digital equipment.  This process has been underway for the last 1 ½ hears and we expect the completion by late fall or early spring.  At that time we will move our low power transmitter to our transmitter site and connect it at approximately 900' on our tower.  We believe that this will cover Milwaukee with an acceptable signal until we go to full power operation -- Don Hain
VP, Engineering and Operations."

Hope it clarifies some things.

I agree that eventually WITI-DT will be able to increase their power to cover all of Southeastern Wisconsin.  We have a lot of impatient people on this board who want all shows, commercials, etc in high definition NOW! Not 20 years from now.  Eventually WVTV/WCGV along with WVCY will be able to offer high definition.  It costs TV stations a lot to upgrade. Viewers are not paying the stations out of their pockets, they have to rely on advertisers and to get a good amount of money from these ads the program they show has to have high ratings in the nielsens.

Give it time, everything will be there before you know it. Remember back in the 50s and 60s when color first came out, very few shows were telecasted in color.  Now you rarely find any black & white on any station today. Occasionally ch. 18 airs Andy Griffith Show were early part of those shows were done in black & white. When producing these shows in color got cheaper, more shows came out in color.

Right now High Definition equipment is very costly, so do expect more network shows to be made in its current standard format until the price of HD equipment goes down.  We may have to wait 20 years before we see every station do everything in HD mode 24/7.

I want to know why Fox6 is now extending their prediction to include next spring.  I know the crew doing the reinforcing and they also have the contract to move the analog standby antenna from 400 to 800' yet this fall.  If they can move that antenna this fall I'm sure they can install that PUNY DTV antenna they plan on using.

Then it is too cold and windy to move the standby antenna from 400 to 800 feet wouldn't you say!!!

They will never install it. I gave up on WITI.

IF conditions are right, I can get 32-1 in.  Same with most Chicago Stations.

I have a better chance getting 32-1 at a lower signal because it's not HD, it holds the picture a bit better.

If I had about 5 to 10 ft more height, I could could get them more consistantly.  I guess I'm just in a lower area.
