If you're a fan of Jack DuBlon and the other old Milwaukee horror hosts, you may want to drop by http://www.milwaukee-horror-hosts.com.

Besides some updates to a few graphics and some new ads, you'll find that all of the vintage audio is now in Real Audio format. I've put the "Cartoon Alley" opening audio back on the page dedicated to WITI's kids' shows, and there's a clip of Jack DuBlon doing a station I.D. on his bio page.

Best of all, there are now 6.5 hours of vintage "Nightmare Theatre" audio up on the site for all to enjoy. Since WITI used to erase and reuse the videotape each week, these are probably the only know record of almost all of the shows. The audio goes back to show #3 in October of 1964! You can really tell Jack's "Dr. Cadaverino" character evolved - even during the show's first year.

Just in time for Halloween!

Enjoy!

Do you watch that really odd horror movie thing that I think airs on WMLW? It has that strange vampire who is always getting rubber chickens thrown at him?

The whole thing seems like it was set up on a $100 budget.. I can't stand to watch it.

Nevermind - I just found him on your site. :)

'Svengoolie' .. Even though he tried to be funny, he still scares me...

Dylan,

I guess if you look at the site long enough you'll never know what you'll find!

It is from WCIU in chicago. Which is a Weigel Broadcasting Station and "Reruns" so to speak air on WMLW. i would say they are syndicated but i dont know of any horror hosts that have ever been. But it seems to have fallen off of the Lineup over at WMLW but i assume that is because of Highschool football.

You're correct re: Svengoolie being pre-empted on WMLW-CA because of high school football.

Actually, there were a few horror hosts who were syndicated:

The most famous, of course, was Cassandra Peterson as "Elvira"!

Kaiser Broadcasting syndicated Ron Sweed's "The Ghoul" shows (originating in Cleveland) in a bunch of cities including Chicago. In 1973, Kaizer cancelled "Screaming Yellow Theater", which was hosted by the original "Svengoolie" (Jerry G. Bishop) on WFLD in Chicago, and replaced it with the show hosted by Swede. It only lasted 6 months.

There have been a few others as well, but save for "Elvira" none lasted very long outside of their own markets.

Dick,  awesome site!!

Quote"Shirley", a tarantula provided by the Milwaukee County Zoo, crawled over the book, while announcer Bob Beringer intoned the film's title.

Man, that takes me back to sitting on my parent's couch eating junk food with my brothers every Saturday night.

Thanks again for a great site.

Thanks for the kind words. It's been a real labor of love. I started out 8 years ago with nothing more than some memories, and that has turned into 6 articles on the subject as well as the website. I had no idea that it would become a "monster"!

It's been a lot of fun - and a lot of work, but I've learned a great deal and met some great folks in the process. It's a great feeling when you're able to share with others.
