Anyone heard what the channel lineup of voom is?  Anyone heard of voom?  I called the 800 number from the website and found out it is $749.99 for the dish, receiver, remote and local antenna.  They wouldn't tell me what the monthly price is yet.

If you google VOOM you will get some more specifics than what their website tells you.  Off the top of my head, I believe the price for the HD channels was $39.99.

When they roll it out you need to go to Sears and pay $49.99 for a voucher for it and then when they come to install you pay the remaining $700.00.  I too have not seen a channel lineup so I don't know if this is worth switching to or not.

Rats! They had a hole in their site a week ago that led to a channel lineup...but they closed it up now. Wish I had saved a copy.

It was like a who's who of cable channels... even HGTV was there! Had me wondering how they were gonna get HiDef stuff from channels with no HiDef programming.

But Sears has a brochure with the following info:

The base package is $39.95/mo for which you will get :

HD Cinema 10 -- ten separate channels of HD movies

Epics -- "spectacular cinema and performing arts....."

Monsters -- "Horror, thrillers, and sci-fi from classic horror...."

Rush -- "Fast-moving, high-energy action sports in spectacular settings....."

WorldSport -- "Live exclusive presentations of two soccer leagues -- Italy and Spain-- plus track and field, motor sports and more......"

Rave -- "Chart-topping music videos and performances..."

Ultra -- "The latest in fashion, cuisine, home design, travel and modern living...."

Treasure -- "The stories of collectors and their eclectic tastes in objects they covet..."

Gallery -- "Explore the worlds of art, architecture, and cultural performance...."

MOOV -- "A continuous flow of breathtaking imagery set to music..."

Animania -- "Celebrating animation of all kinds..."

VOOM NewsBytes -- "The first and only high definition source fo news weather and sports updated 24 hours a day...."

In addition there are "HDTV PlusPacks." These are:

Starz which includes Discovery HD, In Demand HD 1 and 2, and 6 Starz digital multiplexes. Coming soon StarzEast HD and StarzWest HD.

HD Sports which includes NBA TV, the Golf Channel, College Sports TV, the Tennis Channel, and Fox SportsWorld. Coming Soon NFL Network HD.

HBO which includes the usual multiplexed 7 channels and both east and west coast HD feeds.

Showtime ditto the above.

Cinemax ditto the above with HD when it becomes available.

The standard monthly packet includes one of these, and others are additional for $14.95 additional a month. The package also includes a bunch of "cable Favorites of over 40 channels. Which exact ones were not spelled out, but they include at least CNN, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, ABC Family, The Hallmark Network, CNN Headline News and HGTV.

The brochure says that any local digital or HD channels will also be provided for free. What constitutes a local channel is not spelled out.

I've read that as far as locals, the installation of the VOOM satellite includes a OTA antenna installed and positioned. If you have an OTA antenna, they will hook it up to the new VOOM STB, and position it to receive OTA digital channels.
I've gotten most of this from AVS Forum where I believe that some people are already on a waiting list to have VOOM installed.
I myself am interested, but will wait awhile till that $800 price comes down. But it does sound promising, especially now that I hear ESPN-HD might be carried before the end of the year....speculation at this point though.
