Hi all, i currently have Time warner cable HDTV. It is very boring only having 3 stations..soon to be 4 (tmj4). Down the road, i want HDNET, ESPN HD and all the rest that will be in HD.  Where can i find DTV equipment for cheap? Possibly the e86?  And....wil twc carry these stations.

DirecTV has only 3 channels as well... HDNet, HBO HD and Showtime HD. However my DirecTV box picks up 4, 10 and 58 HD over the air. I beleive that, with the possible exception of HDNet, TW will eventually deliver everything you can get on satellite.

My prefernce of DirecTV is actually related to the picture quality of the non-hd stuff. Fox News, HGTV, and TLC are the non hd channels I watch most often, and the picture quality differnce is astounding. DiercTV is crystal clear, TW is grainy (despite their claims of digital "quality").

I have to agree (and I REALLY dislike cable). Don't go to DirecTV ONLY because you want HD now. You will end up paying for it now and in the future (near?) not be anywhere ahead of cable. Actually, you will technically be ahead on cable as you will get everything over the line and not have to worry about an antenna.

My reason for DirecTV was originally picture quality (although that has gone WAY down hill since local channels), but now is pretty much solely Tivo. If/when cable offers a PVR with the EXACT capabilities as my dual tuner 106 hour DirecTivo, I would switch in a second. Luckily it isn't looking like I will have to worry about that.

BTW, if you are seriously thinking about switching over, wait a month two.. you should be able to get an excellent new customer deal with a DiercTivo Series 2. Plus, if you order the HD and Tivo boxes together on the same new customer order, you should be able to get all three cable runs along with an oval dish and sat "c" all installed for free.

TWC might pull ahead of DirecTV by December.  DirecTV isn't allowing much of its bandwidth to be used for HDTV.  HDNet's 3 additional channels will probably only be on cable systems when they launch in December.  TWC is one of the cable systems with an agreement. (Hopefully this includes the local system.)  Unfortunately, ESPN HD might be in the same shape.

This probably would hit DirecTV very hard and hopefully they would be smart enough to include ESPN HD.
