Well gotta give it to the Pack...in HD 3 and out and then the Bears 3 and out and then Green gets a TD in HD.  We'll now call that a HDTD!!!!

A note:  I don't like the score box being inside the 4:3 portion of the screen but I guess they have to do that for the people out there without 16:9 or HD sets.

I have to agree with you on that. Thou they are using the same ABC video to the analog, thus cutting the sides off. Did you notice if you watch the game between an analog set and your HDTV set that on the analog side the 12 logo in the lower right corner is yellow on green and jammed against the ABC logo, where on the DTV side its white and spaced to the ABC logo?

But I thought about the samething concerning the score being close to the middle. I think its because they use the HDTV video as well on the analog except they are cutting off the sides. People who still watching this game in analog are missing out the rest of the playing field.

Also how come during the commercials, when they played the movie trailer for "Mystic River" why didn't they air that in Hi-Def? All the ads were in Standard, including the movie trailer. Its stupid to darken the upper and lower screen on a DTV signal, send it Hi-Def!

It's 17-3 as I write this. Go Pack!

One thing WISN and ABC are doing that I actually like and they probably know about but the sponsors haven't complained about yet.  Is when they go to an ad the center channel is dead, and the end result is the audio for the ad breaks are about 6 or more dB lower than the game audio.  NOW THAT I LIKE, but I'm not holding my breath.  They'll figure it out and get those DAMN ads back up above the program level.

I have a friend over for the game and he is amazed at the PQ of the game. This is his first HDTV viewing. I think the picture quality is excellent tonite. Must be the green and gold!

BTW did the rest of you notice during the SD portions for the ads and such that 12 has a number of pixels flashing white/black up in the top 1/3 center section of the screen.  Rather annoying, I wonder if it's an encoder problem at WISN.

I'm seeing the flashing pixels on 4:3 programs, including commercials. The actual game doens't have the pixels.
It scared the heck out of me. For a few seconds I thought my TV was going bad.;)

I noticed the same flashing spot on my tv.  I just got the tv last week and I initially thought it was my set until I read the post.  I can handle it during the commercials, as long as the game looks good.  And boy does it look good!

Tom Snyder

That flashing pixel was discussed earlier in another thread, but I didn't really pay attention to it because I wasn't watching 12 at the time. I see it now...

Great picture tonite. Plus, you gotta love that Dolby 5.1. Fantastic sound!!!!! Cudos to ABC and channel 12. All football should be on ABC.

I got a kick when Jim B. was in the booth. He could be fun as an announcer. He get's into the game and no doubt loves football. Of course I think he'd really rather just watch the game and enjoy it, besides who could stand more than 15 minutes with Madden other than Al.

Soldier field - WOW, does that place look nice.

Lisa whats her name.... WHAT A BABE. She's got one heck of a r**k too. I want to see her cover the pro bowl in Hawaii.

GO PACK!

The picture and sound were great last night. How can I ever watch the Packers again on FOX?

I also wanted to mention that Sunday night's HD offerings on CBS looked fantastic. I watched the new show Cold Case and the picture was amazing. It looked as good as the PBS loop at times. When they showed close-ups of Kathryn Morris's (she also played Tom Cruise's wife in Minority Report) face, you could see every imperfection. It was really strange, like the makeup people screwed up or something. But it was just a great picture. Unfortunately, this later made Alias on ABC looked washed out.

Maybe I have different equipment than you guys, but I thought the HD Packers game last night (and MNF in general) is very weak compared to CBS and ESPN football.

1. I think ESPN and CBS use 1080i (help me out as a newbie here, but I see CBS and ESPN pictures as being much better and sharper than ABC and their 720p?)

2. ABC MNF didn't have HD cameras throughout.  Watch ESPN sunday night football and almost EVERY camera is HD.   The "field view" cam last night was SD and looked terrible, as was the blimp cam and a few others.   On MNF I feel like I am watching a great picture, but on ESPN SNF I feel like I am "in the stadium. "  Maybe others don't notice this, but I sure do.

How come MNF can't have HD cameras everywhere, but ESPN can?  They are owned by the same company and MNF is a signature program.  ESPN football rules for HD quality.

3. Glad someone noticed the pixel problem, I was worried something was wrong with my set also.

Dan the Man

Scott,

You are correct on all counts. I don't get ESPN HD, but I can bet it's sharper.

The camera thing, yeh, a few were only SD, but the main ones that count seem to be HD. The rest are what I like to call "beer shots"... as in its time to get up and go get a beer.

I think that NBC, CBS and PBS have the best HD. As for Faux, well we all know where they stand :bang: (hint hint).

Later!

Scott

Dan,

I shelled out the money for the DirectTV package with ESPN HD and think it is outstanding for the certain events they do in HD.  I have to admit I also like HDNET and Discovery HD as well.  HD movies is ok, but the keep re-running the same movies over and over again.

Having 4 good HD channels with DirectTV and maybe a few OTA regular HD programs on CBS, NBC, etc. reminds me of the old days before cable.  I generally just watch those HD channels/programming now since I got my HD Tv.

I just hope the NBA will broadcast games this year in HD on their channel with 1080i resolution.

It is very hard to watch NFL games in SD anymore after watching the CBS and ESPN HD games.  The difference is stunning.   Unfortunately, I don't think FOX or FOX 6 really care much about this right now, because we are too small a group (but growing daily)

Isn't ESPN part of the ABC/Disney family?  As such, I think they are using 720p just like their sister stations.

d_bohne

Both ESPN and ABC use 720p.  Most argue that 720p is better for sports and other fast moving programming.
