TWC - HD Converter - SD or analog out?

Yet another newbie question.  I am waiting for my new HD television to arrive.  I currently have TWC digital and will swap out the converter for the HD model.

I would like to have the HD converter available when the television arrives.  Can I switch the converter in advance of the television delivery?  TWC said no, that I would need the HD set.  I would have thought that the HD converter would have had a SD output to feed a VCR or DVR that could temporatily be used to feed my current non-HD set.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

I had the same scenario a couple months back when I got my new HDTV.  TWC did not want to come out and switch the boxes if I didn't have the new TV yet.  I only had to go one day with out the HD box so it was no big deal.

However, you may want to check one of the service centers to see if they have them available for swap.  I have heard recently that some service centers keep them in inventory now.  The problem is you won't know until you get there.  I would think that the HD box would work just fine even on a non-HD set (it may depend on the TV).  My TV has a seperate viewing input for the HD stuff and the Digital/SD viewing.

I have the Scientific Atlanta HD box but apparently the Pioneer box is much better to use especially if you have a home theatre set-up.  Enjoy your new TV!

I went to a TWC office (could have gone to Mayfair/Regency kiosk as well) and simply asked for an additional HD box.  The next day, I returned my old one.  No muss.  No fuss.  No hassel.

I just picked up the Pioneer HD box from my local office.  It doesn't have a coax out for your TV, but it does have Composite Video output.  So, if your old tv only has a coax in, then you should wait,  if it has a Composite Video input, then you can swap out for the HD box early.
