Noticed over on AVS that ER *potentially* is going to be in HD.

Sean, can you confirm this locally ??

It sure would be great news if that was the case !

Well, for anyone interested, here's the link from AVS. I know I'll be watching.

ER in HD !!

Ummmm, yes, ditto here!!  Boy, I hope it's true for us.

"Without a Trace," just vanished from my radar screen.

Imagine the difficult choices that would have to be made if the other affiliates joined the club.

WMTV got the heads-up from NBC about 2:20 Thursday afternoon.  I made sure our master control operator knew about it!

Runway clear.

It's in HD!!!!!!!

hooray!!! Alas Without A Trace just lost me... sorry Jim Hall, you can't win them all..

Looked pretty good. A few brief audio dropouts right after the first commercial break, but that was it.

Major issue: The "Pop Secret" Ad clearly stated that it was formatted to fit my TV when it was not. It had these annoying "black bars" on the sides and they were not able to be removed. Why didn't the popcorn fill my screen?

Thanks Sean for helping us out.

Overall, very well done.  My wife was VERY impressed.  Next week, we'll have to invite my sister over.

Definately cool!

I checked the station log for the "Pop Secret" commercial.. it was not listed.. so it was probably a national "spot" form NBC. I haven't seen NBC run any HD commercials yet, so I'm not sure what was going on, or how the Pop Secret commercial was going to fill the screen.

Master Control was not aware of any audio dropouts after the first break in ER.. but they only monitor the analog audio off air. Listening to the digital channel off air would drive them crazy because of the delay in compressing and decompressing the digital signal.

The ad features a bag of microwave popcorn in the microwave. As it pops, the sides of the bag reveal text stating something along the lines of "This bag of popcorn has been formatted to fit your TV screen." It pops up and eventually popcorn covers the 4x3. Just kind of odd they didn't run the 16x9 edition for HD.
