Fox 6 Tower progress?

I emailed Earl Arbuckle, a Fox Corporate Engineer, about when the antenna gets moved to the main tower... Here's his reply:

Tom,

Can't give you a date, but I can say the tower work is going much better this season.  When you see the tower getting painted, you'll know we're close.

I asked for some clarification on whether that means still this Fall, or next spring... I'll post his reply.

:bang:

aaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhh!

Is this guy a politician.... He should be!

Matt Heebner

Gregg  is  the antenna  "guru" so maybe he should swing by where they are putting this up,  and tell us where he thinks the progress is. This is the second football season that I can't watch the "enhanced' football games.

I don't know anything about towers, etc. but....it seems to me that FAUX really seems to dragging their feet with this. Just this last week with perfect weather, and no wind they should have made a ton of progress....right?

Didn't they say that sometimes it rains up at those elevations when we don't get any down here?  Maybe that is part of the problem... ;)

WITI made millions on broadcasting the Harley-Davidson Parade last week Saturday morning and they carry most of the Green Bay Packer season football games so therefore they should have LOTS of money to raise their DTV antenna and increase the DTV power to 5,000 kW on ch. 33 and out do WTMJ and WISN easily. Also provide HDTV broadcasts as well.  They got the $$$ to do the major upgrade why they being so tight?

Also next year they can purchase many HDTV cameras and air the 101st HD parade in HDTV as well.

I doubt that the Harley Parade was much of a money maker for them. I could be wrong, but I don't think that Harley paid them a cent to cover it.  Who knows... with the way Harley is with their licensing rights, they may have even had to pay Harley for the rights to cover the event.

The only revenue would be the commerical load during the coverage... and I suspect that the rate for those spots was probably not all that high.

And while they get a premium rate for the Packer games.. pay careful attention to how many local avails they actually get during a Packer game.

I'm not carrying water for these guys, mind you. They make money, no doubt. But as a Fox O&O, any extra profit they make goes to Mr. Murdock.

P.S. BTW.. the next Harley Parade will be the 105th... Maybe Fox 6 will have a full power digital signal by then. ;)

Where is this tower being constructed?  What street/intersection?  I'd like to peek at what I've been wait for.

Gregg Lengling

It's not being constructed...it's being reinforced to handle the additional loading.  It's the 1000 foot self-supporting tower on the Milwaukee River Parkway just North of Capitol Drive.

Ya gotta feel sorry for the people at Fox 6... Ya know the FCC out of the blue with no warning imposes this wacko digital requirement. It really isn't fair that they have to spend all that money just to stay current.

What's even worse is that a couple of the other MKE stations had some inside information... 4,10,12,18,24,30,41,58,65 musta paid somebody off.........

Wait a minute....Isn't that just about every other Milwaukee TV station??? There must be some sorta Taft-Hartley conspiracy to put FOX 6 outta business. Sounds like a problem for the anti-aussie defamation league!

mcq

All kidding aside... FOX 6 - look ashamed!

mcq

Oh heck, who am I kidding.... I'm the dummy, as I'm going to watch the Packer game anyway, regardless of how it's presented!? The folks at Fox 6 could kill the color, kill the sound and I'm still tuning in......

Gotta give them credit for having good business sense.

:(

I dont think its good business sense at all. The first chance we get to stick it to them we will. Customers remember the one thing you did wrong not the 100 things you did right.

From a consumer aspect you are absolutely correct... But from a corporate bottom-line perspective, their business plan makes sense--Why rush into an expenditure that satisfies a small minority of the population?

They met the "digital" objective as far as the FCC is concerned (n'est pas?) and their siginal is availabe on TWC.  All that is left is a hand full of us satelliters, who are trying to get Fox6 OTA.  What recourse do we have? Call our congressman...Boycott Fox 6... Yeah right. Even when I boycotted TV 58 (for over a year) I had a small 3+ hour lapse when the Packers had their one game on CBS that year. (OK, I rationalized it as it was at someone else's TV.)

950ash, I see that you are relatively new here and that is great as we want to see new people and fresh ideas. But having had HDTV for over three years and being here over two, I can tell you that complaining about  signals, (and lack thereof), or programining, (and lack thereof) only solves one problem...it is good for blowing off steam (and it's kinda fun to poke fun at a big bad corporate entity.)

Happy HDTV'ing (or lack thereof)

Hehe, me being called a Noob.

I bought my system because of progressive dvd playing 3+ years ago. Live TV is only an afterthought because I am a Tivo series 1 addict. I have 4 current Tivo's 1 SA and 3 DSR6000's.

Not much into PC capture's because Dtivo's color's and sharpness Far surpases any non pro interlaced card on the market. I do have 2 dvd writers, Pioneer A03(dvd-R) and TDK 440N(dvd+r and dvd-r).

Oh and I didnt mention anything about complaining.
