Hello everyone,

I am thrilled that such a forum exists in Milwaukee.  I was worried I would be me vs. technology with technology holding all the trump.

I am seeking advice on how to get the best HD signal into my house.

My situation is as follows: I am living in Fox Point.  I recently got a Zenith 420 HDTV tuner.  My analog signal strength wasn't great before I went to HD, so I bought a Winegard Sensar GS 2000.  It is an amplified VHF/UHF antenna that has a fairly sleek profile.  It is mounted on an outside porch near the roof of my house.  It greatly improved my analog signals VHF and UHF.  When I got my HD tuner, I was disappointed that I was getting choppy signals.  Some channels were ok, but most were not.  I figured I would go with a UHF only antenna like the winegard 4400.  Then last night, (Aug 23) the signals were all coming in incredibly well...I was even getting Fox with a consistantly strong signal.  (I've read enough posts here to realize that this is a rare occurance.)  This morning however, I am back to a so-so signal strength and Fox is nowhere to be seen.

To add just a little more confusion, I have tried using Zenith's included attenuator and get mixed results, sometimes it allows me to get a channel that is choppy and sometimes it takes a good channel and loses the signal.

Please let me know what suggestions you have.  My expectations might be too high, but it seems that if the signal is out there, and I live only a few miles from the  antennas that I should be getting a better signal.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've heard (although up here in Germantown with an umamplifed indoor antenna, I don't know first hand), that an amplified signal sometimes gives to too much signal, and that causes choppiness. In Fox Point, you've gotta have a pretty good signal...I would try turning off the amplifier and see what happens.

As far as 6 MIA, we've heard that they'll be using the same antenna and low power transmitter that they've been using up at their studios for their first stab at a signal on their main antenna once it's re-inforced. Perhaps (we can only hope) that the reinforcement is done, and they're moving the gear to Estabrook...this no signal.

Of course, why they choose not to communicate with us is anyone's guess.

Maybe you should call "Contact Six" :) . Do they still have the segment?
