Any word from the underground regarding FOX 6 Milwaukee and their citywide coverage? I haven't seen a post or thread on this in some time........

John L

Hope they do something quick.  Did you read in the previoius group about Fox expanding their programming to include HD? So with Fox doing that, WITI better get on the ball.

We know someone from Fox is coming here because our traffic logs show 6304 hits here from Fox6.com this year alone.

I can't resolve a location, but I find it hard to believe that the Fox 6's in San Angelo, TX,  Topeka  or San Diego would be all that Interested in us.  I just know that before Fox corporate made them change to fox6milwaukee.com, they were fox6.com.

So although they know we're talking about them, we're certainly not hearing from them.

But don't hold your breath for 720p this year...all the info I've read has been that they are shooting for next spring for True HD vs. Enhanced Wide Screen....

But if you do look at their tower in Shorewood..even from a distance you can see things are going on.....but they are probably very cautious.  I belong to a remailer of Tower Erectors and in the last 12 months over 13 tall towers that were being re-engineered to handle an HD antenna have fallen....with a total of over 7 deaths......:(

And since every other station in Milwaukee has their tower up...odds are not favorable for 6... Is that what you are saying??

I still cant believe that Fox 6s tower cannot hold a new antenna.  At one time, Ch 18 was on that tower (I believe), so why cant they hold the HD antenna????

John L

Ch. 18 never had an antenna on WITI-TV 6 tower.  However both chs 10 & 36 had antenna on ch. 6 tower up until 1981.

OOOPS!  My bad!  You are correct!  18 was on the Hilton building.  But that still leads me to... they had TWO ADDITIONAL antennas on that tower.

Gregg Lengling

That tower was engineering the 50's and the standards back then were all together different than they are today.  As a matter of fact Wisconsin has some of the most stringent tower standards in the US.  I was involved in building and owning towers for quite a few years before I retired last spring and know this all firsthand.

Most of the existing towers could accomodate a new antenna under the old engineering standards, but todays new safety and engineering standards don't allow it.  Also keep in mind that a Television transmitting antenna can weigh up to 5 tons...yes tons...10,000 pounds.

I bow before the RF Guru!! You are so right.  I am going to now crawl back into my corner.  Would love to chat about towers sometime though!

I just hate seeing the "Available in Hi-Res Widescreen" banner at the opening of all the prime-time fox programming, and knowing it's not really available.  It's been like that for going on two years now and I feel insulted every time it wipes across the screen.

mcq

Well.... It is available...just not here!? (OTA ;)  )
