Other than a little pixelation about 15 minutes in, just stunning:)

I enjoyed the show very much also... but I'm curious, am I the only one that finds the new MPTV HD "bug" in the upper left corner a bit annoying? Why did they have to make it so large?

Bugs are annoying, I was waiting for someone to comment. The MPTV banner appeared on the TWC feed when they started transmitting 36 digitial.

IMO they could make it way smaller and stick it at the extreme bottom right, most of the bugs on the PBS feed have a little space underneath them.

Tom Snyder

Problem with lower right corner placement is that many of the shows they get from other PBS affiliates put their own bug there, and there's no size or placement consistancy.

There needs to be co-ordination like the commercial networks do to place a tiny network logo in the far right, with the local affiliate logo just to the left of it. (or vice versa)

I can't stand the logo so big in the top-left corner. They should make it smaller. I think the analog channel's logo is more transparent then the HD one. Another thing is the "M" in the logo is half off my screen. When I taped the concert last night, I noticed something weird. I put the VCR in my right window and noticed that I could see the whole "M". I also noticed it was out into a sliver of a black field running along the left side. But when I run the tape in full screen, my TV runs the black just off the screen the same way I saw it on my screen live during the concert. This is good in the sense I see nothing but picture. But the logo is cut off. Is this the overscan area?

Hey.... like I asked....... Does ANYBODY see the TIME/DATE jumping all over the place in the program guide when tuned to this channel? It's just randomly picking times and dates every second about. It's bugging me!

Joseph S

This is just silly, who do they think we'll confuse the programming with? They're not competing with Discovery, History, HDNET :( or other channels on OTA.

Stick it on original programming if it's that big of deal, but if it isn't your's don't annoy us with WISN analog tactics of bugs obliterating entire regions of the screen. Also, fade on and fade off with start of programming or coming back from commercials(others).

I still can't channel down from 36-1  I can channel up though.    Sony SAT-HD200

I just needed to do a re-scan I guess.  All is well again.  10-6 vanished in the process also.  The problem wasn't the STB, it was the owner....

To GSKid.....my receivers show the time properly and stable..so must be something on your end.

However....the new BUG has to GO.  Geez is that bad practice..filling the upper left corner......I think those of us with HD receivers know what channel we're watching.  It's a neat technology but I'd like to meet the person who developed it for station logos in a dark alley at 3 in the morning.

I have learned to tollerate the small semi-transparent branding bugs, but I absolutly lothe the banners that are smered across the screen to promote the station, or the up-next programming.  It's distracting and disrespectful to all parties involved in the program. ...is this off topic?

Quoteis this off topic?

Um, considering the the topic is "Channel 36 digital starts testing," I would say so... but what the heck... we've got a good rant going here, so I'll allow it.

I have a suggestion:

Stop venting here and call Ellis Bromberg at 414-297-7661.  That is his direct line.  If he gets enough of these calls with civil input I would think he would do something about it.  Why not try it?

As I recall, this thread orignally was sold to us as a way for Mr. Bromberg to get input from us.

QuoteWe would like to ask everyone...

QuoteYou are then invited to share your experiences here in this tread.

I guess I assumed the "we" was you and him. So why do we have to now call him on his private line to get our feedback to him? Is he not reviewing this thread?

Just in case he is reading this thread....

I'm 100% against the 3 hour delay on 10-1 and 10-2.

I hate the 3-hour delay too, and would just like to know WHY  there is a 3-hour delay ???  As much as I love PBS' prime time programming, I am not staying up to Midnight and beyond to watch these shows.

Joseph S

How about a variety of the current one on the loop now? It's nothing but an "M" for Maryland. Just flip it for a "W." :D

Tom:

The topic was about how people were receiving the new digital channel 36 signal during the testing phase and, if PSIP issues occurred, how their HD receivers were dealing with those issues.

Yes, Ellis Bromberg has indicated he is aware of what is being said on this forum.  No, I did not feel this topic was about bugs in the upper left hand corner.  Therefore, I didn't feel this topic should, as a result, be used to give Milwaukee Public Television feed back about every gripe someone might have after the testing period was over.

I merely intended to suggest people might be more fruitful with direct contact because the topic had evolved into something beyond what was intended.   The whole bug issue is controversal anyway and discussing it here (AGAIN), is in my opinion, not going to change the big picture.  But talking to Ellis one on one might actually be a better forum to gain meaningful results.  There is certainly nothing stopping someone from starting a new thread too if they are so inclined.

People with real issues can and should contact him directly like I did.  He is accessable and listens with the intent of providing a fair ear to anyone with something to share.  However, not everything needs to be discussed exclusively in public.  So, at the risk of taking viewers away because less controversy might occur, I believe that well intended people talking one on one might actually accomplish more.  I certainly hope this is understood.
