The new channel will debut in the winter of 2004.

PBS will launch a new channel devoted to high-definition and digital widescreen programming in the winter of 2004.

The PBS HD channel is a new service. It will use shows from a growing library of up to 400 hours of digital NPS programming.

The launch of the 24-hour, seven days a week, HD and digital widescreen programming service is designed to replace the 'HD Loop' and will enable stations to signal the transition from demonstration to early deployment of high-definition television.
