As I scan the Sunday newspaper inserts for televisions, I note that there are now some closeouts on 4x3 HDTV monitors for as little as $700.  What is really frustrating is that there is no mention of set top boxes for receiving HD over the air.  No specials, no sales, no mention at all.  While cable is fine for receiving HD, it is one of 3 different methods for reception.  Never see anything from Best Buy, Circuit City, American, or Flanners about this.  I wish they would accelerate the requirement that all HD TV's must contain HD tuners and end this silliness of selling half a set.

Me too.....

Keep in mind though, the majority of average people subscribe to cable and get their box that way. It's convenient and hassle free.

Right now, digital TV is a luxury, not a necessity. Rest assured, by the time it becomes a necessity, the majority of average people will have been educated in the requirements for receiving this medium.

I can assure you very few, if any, customers leave these establishments without having HD explained in full  (I use this loosely). Just because it's not in ad doesn't mean it's not being discussed.....  :bang:

Oh, that and there aren't any closeouts on HD tuners right now....

However, stay tuned, a little birdy told me about a bang up deal coming.....  :p   (lol, and it probably won't be advertised!)

Well I trust you wil let us know as I am soon going to be in the market for a new gen HD D* box. The trusty DTC-100 will probably be moved to the bedroom soon.
