TWC HD Setup

TWC was just here this afternoon to install the 3100 HD. I've had Directv for 3 years but decided it was time to take advantage of my Panasonic PT47WX49. My only problem(so far) is the picture only showing up in 4:3 mode and not being able to stretch it to fullscreen. How can I get rid of the black bars on the side? Is my best bet just to get the new Pioneer box(which lets you change aspect ratios) or do I need to change my setup??


I was just over at HDvoice reading up on the Panasonics. One guy had burn-in within 5 months of owning his set. What recourse will I have if the signal I'm receiving with the 3100HD cause  the same type of burn in?

When you veiw HD, and it is not a HD program on a HD channel, you get what you get you can not shrink or enlarge it, cause it is a up convert. Bottom line is, thats the way it is. Maybe there is new equipment that can but I have not heard of it, In HD apsic ratio, is controled by HD receiver not T.V., How I do it is, if it's 4.3, I switch to composite input and select 16.9 or wide then all modes work , like, full, zoom , wide. Hope this helps

I'm doing something similar... I run the S-video output from the 3100HD to one of the S-video inputs on my monitor, and I switch to those inputs when I'm watching a non-widescreen (non-HD) channel, and I use the "zoom/stretch" controls on my monitor to fill the screen. But I'm looking forward to getting one of the newer boxes so I don't have to screw around with this ... AND to see what a 720p broadcast looks like (since the 3100HD box will upconvert all signals to 1080i).

Not much, I'm afraid.   I would follow Snard's recommendation and watch non-hd material through another input.   Unless you can get TWC to deliver an ellusive Pioneer box that allows you to adjust the HD screen size.

I also would consider investing in a calibration DVD such as AVIA or Sound & Vision if you haven't already.  Having your screen settings properly adjusted will minimize your chance of burn-in.
