I'm wanting to ditch my desktop and go to a laptop format but I want  a huge screen. Do you guys have any suggestions on what a good hdtv/monitor setup might be? The main reason I need the large screen is for video editing and gaming, Ideally I would like something that could run at least 800 by 600 resolution and be able to push 85 frames per second. The technical details on the products i have been looking at are over my head. Is it possible to get such a device that could push the 85 frames per seconds? thanks for the help

Well, any message that mentions "laptop" and "HDTV" in the same breath, deserves to include this system. (It's a Dell Inspiron 8500)

Disclaimer: I don't actually own one of these (yet), but I have an older Inspiron 8000 at work, with a "small" 15" 1600x1200 screen, and like it very much.

lol, thats the laptop I have!! fully loaded too, its really nice and does everything I need it to, only reason im holding onto the desktop setup is because my aim is better on a bigger monitor, I can hook the laptop up to my 22" monitor but I'm wanting to save the real estate on my desktop, anyhow, what kind of clarity can you get out of the high end hdtv's with the vga inputs? is it comparable to that of a regular computer monitor?

Pat

I'm thinking this is the laptop with 16:10 rather than 16:9.  Is that correct?

I, too, am looking for a HD-type monitor, but smaller than you typically see.  Does anybody know how big (physically) a set like the 30" Samsung for around $1000 is?  Or know how well it would work in both uses?

Otherwise, I have similar questions as Elevation0 about a TV's use as a PC monitor.

The aspect ratio is in fact 16:10 as you mentioned, but it's 1920x1200.  I assume that if you were only looking at the upper most 1920x1080 pixels, it would be 16:9.
