John,  What's the problem.....I see an important DVD missing from your collection...it's probably one of the best to demo HD and DVD and sound with.......
The Fifth Element...superbit version.......

You gotta have it!

Oops........ busted.

I agree. Hmmm....... *starts rummaging though the wallet*

I have seen it, I have used it before. It is great. I especially like the where Lalu falls slow motion off the building with the cars zooming by under her. Excellent color and motion.

I always hear it's the best movie to show off but how good is the actual movie itself? I've never seen it.

You guys have it in stock already?

Pat

It's science fiction and pretty entertaining in my view.  Lots of good sound and music also.  I'd have to classify it as a guy movie, with lots of impressive weapons, destruction, fighting, and a scantily-clad woman.

I use it to demo my HDTV to friends if there isn't anything interesting on.  It's full of action, music, and comedy...it covers all the bases.  I've had people glued to their seats and I just wanted to do a small demo and get back to drinking or partying...but NOOOOO they wanted to watch the whole movie.

It's a blast but make sure you spend the extra bucks on the SuperBit version...the regular widescreen version is pretty good too, but the SuperBit is wonderful.

Yup..... in stock, and I admit I was skeptical at first. Upconversion? BAH......!! But now, I am impressed to say the least. I think I like the 720p mode better than the 1080i, as the 1080i seems to have more artifacts.

I do have one other superbit movie, HollowMan, and the picture is mind numbing from a DVD (special effects, YAY! storyline, BOO!).  Once I made the leap there, I can honestly say that if I have the choice to purchase a superbit vs, non-superbit, it will be superbit going home with me that day.

For all intensive purposes, Superbit takes all the junk out (extras, commentary, subtitles) and dedicates that space to better sound and picture. And well worth it......

What kind of jacks are on back? Just DVI? I have a Mits but it doesn't have DVI, just component. :(

jlegge

DVI, yes. As well as component. However, the 720p and 1080i are via the DVI only. 480p from component......

Shirow

John,

Do you think one of these DVD players are worth picking up if I already have a progressive scan DVD player?

Also, does Flanners stock the DVI cables required, or does a decent one come with the player?

I have a progressive scan Toshiba DVD player right now, but if this one has a significantly better picture I'd be interested in picking one up..

jlegge

What kind of TV did you have Shirow? Was it a Toshiba, I can't remember......

The DVD player is great, your best bet is to see it. Your TV may not be able display the 1080i mode from the DVD player, but it will show the 720p mode. I want you to see the difference between the 2 modes.....

Toshiba 42" RPTV - don't remember the exact version number, it's one of the 'Cinema Series'.

What days do you work? I'd like to come check it out :) Keep meaning to come check Flanners out but haven't had a chance.. this is as good a reason as any :)
