I'm wavering  between TWC and OTA. Obviously if I go OTA I'll need to pay for the box. Any recommendations on what make and model would be a good idea??

Thanks.

Depends on what you are looking to do with it? Ota only, hookups for digital camcorder?Possible Directv? All depends what you are going to do?

Unless they've improved channel change speed, pass on the RCA DTC-100.

Picture quality is good, it has an OTA signal strength meter, but it takes a good second or two to switch between HD channels.  I don't have a frame of reference beacsue this one is the only one I've ever owned, but I've heard others are faster.

If I buy a box it will be for OTA only. If I go the cable route it will be the TWC box obviously, and I'll pay by the month.

Thanks for the RCA box info. Now I know which one NOT to get.

I have the samsung sir-t151 and like it a lot.  I get all of the Madison stations good with an inside antenna.  I asked the same questions a wile back and some one mentioned the Magnavox 420 I  think.  It is simular to the Samsung but has a vga output.  I got the Samsung after hearing it was beter at recieving margional signals.

I know there is an open box special on the Samsung SIR-T150 at American on Brown Deer Rd. for $299. I just returned one today ;)

I just found this forum yesterday so please forgive me if I have not read something that has already been posted.  Tons of good stuff here ya know.

Ok, now my question, are you saying TWC charges more for an HD cable box?  I already have a digital box and was told by TWC that all they do is switch the box out when you want a HD box.

Or was the wonderful helpful person at TWC wrong as usual?

No, they were correct.  The HD box goes for the same monthly rate as the plain digital box.

I had no TWC box at all as I just had basic cable. When I went from no box to an HD capable box they charged me another $6.90 a month plus another .50 or something for a remote.

It sounds like if you have digital cable and already have a box you are likely already paying them $6.90 a month for it so then it may just be an even swap.

I think the original point was that you are able to get HD from TW without having to subscribe to digital cable. That's definitely true as that's how I'm set up now. Note if you are going to do that you will need to have the customer service rep ask up the chain until they hit someone that says it's ok. Both reps I started talking to said it wasn't allowed until I made them go check with someone.
