The Pioneer 3510's in the Milwaukee area were upgraded earlier today to fix a compatibility problem between them and a few HD sets when using the component outputs. If you have had interface problems in the past, I suggest you try again now. (I know it's silly to expect someone with a 3510 to be sitting around using the S-Video output while awaiting this patch, but ya never really know, do ya?) I don't have a list of affected TV's, so don't bother asking on a reply....

On another note, I do remember seeing occasional shifts in overall intensity on my HLN when a bright scene change occurred... maybe this will fix that issue as well.  Your mileage may vary.

P.S.: This does not fix[/u] the DVI issue mentioned on other thread(s).

As far as the DVI Port on the 3510HD:

Warner Cables Responds:

"Thank you for your response to Time Warner Cable! In speaking with our Technical Supervisor, I have found out that the DVI port on the Pioneer 3510 HDTV converter is currently disabled. There are plans to update this port in the futrue, but no timeline has been set."

Just have to wait I guess!

As I've stated in other threads the DVI port on my pioneer box is working with a HDCP compatible Toshiba RPTV. Try exchanging your current box with a newer one. I picked mine up in July. - Aaron

I picked up my 3510 stb a few weeks ago in sept. and its currently on a samsung dlp.  I've heard now that there might be a problem with its drivers and the my current samsung 5065 dlp model.

I might try calling twc again to get an update.

my 90 bucks of dvi cable (ouch) is waiting.

Actually I recall hearing about a problem between the Pioneer STB and Samsung DLPs. Maybe calling Samsung's tech support might give you some leads on how to fix it. All I can say is the DVI port is activated on the Pioneer STB, and works with a Toshiba RPTV. Good luck - Aaron

The update is that Pioneer has duplicated the problem in the lab and is working on a solution.

Did this by chance fix the fact that the aspect ratios don't change when changed in the settings?

I'm not familiar with the Box but when changing aspect ratios there are problems.  If you have a box like mine (SAT-HD200) if you are using DVI output the aspect is fixed and cannot be changed.  The way I overcome this is when a 480p signal is being fed to the display (VS 720p or 1080i where the ratio cannot be changed), I use the TV to do the changing.  My Hitachi has a ton of aspect ratios included a few zoom modes.  I find when watching letterboxed 480p (box converts 480i to 480p) such as Enterprise, I use Hitachi's 16:9 Standard display.  Gives the best aspect ratio and uses the most of the screen without distorting sizes and shapes.

My aspect ratio only changes when viewing SD channels on the component output.  If I try to change the aspect when viewing HD sources, the set top replies with something like "format already matches your screen display".   Therefore 3 x 4 "HD" content doesn't stretch---like the locals during non HD programming on 504, 505, 512.  I didn't think that was a bug...  Is it?

If you have a 16 x 9 widscreen  try setting the cable box to - TV TYPE Standard (4x3) and PICTURE SETTINGS to zoom 16:9 picture. This will take care of this problem.
