I picked up the new Time Warner HD box from the Kenosha office. I called this morning and they told me they had a shipment coming in today and to call back. I called after work and they received 30 boxes, first come first served no holding them.
I asked about a DVI cable, the girl went and got a tech and he said they don't use that they hook up the component cables. There is a video/audio output, video/audio input, S-video, the DVI-D connector, no RF output, coax digital sound, serial port, usb connector.
The box has output selections of, 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i
Format selections of 16x9 or 4x3 with stretch, preserve or crop
These only work (I think) on the component output.
I stopped at Best Buy looking for a DVI-D cable and the only one they had was $70

I'll be calling the West Allis office tomorrow!

I've used  Cables To Go recently. Good experience, except for the 6-day wait for UPS ground delivery. Using a 3 meter on my HTPC right now.

I kinda thought that might happen ...

No RF output huh?  This is just a little bit of a bummer because I used the RF output on my 3100HD Box  to run up to my old tv upstairs so I don't have to rent 2 boxes!  There IS separate composite, component, and s-video outputs right (along with the DVI), cause then I could us the Component output for my HDTV and  use an RF Modulator and convert the composite signal to an RF Signal then send the signal to my upstairs TV through the RF Calbe.  This would work right?  It sounds like it should work, but I just wanted to bounce the idea off of you guys. Thanks.

Picked up mine this morning.  Everything went smooth but I don't get a signal from 512.  I hear the audio but I don't get a picture.

In the menu, there is an option to choose the output formats (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i).  Should I choose them all?  What does 512 output in?

I would call TW but I think I would get a long pause and an answer that doesn't make sense.

What would a number be for the Whitefish Bay area?  I called the general number, but I can't talk to anyone.

How do the analog channels look?  Do they look better than with the 3100HD Box when hooked up with the component output?  How about the Digital channels?  Does the 3510HD stretch the digital channels (or analog) channels itself?  Will that be different than my Toshiba 57H82 Stretch modes?  Just curious.

I called Time Warner and the Rep said that I couldn't swap boxes because I already had a HD box. I explained to her that I wanted the new Pioneer 3510HD box that had more features but she was clueless. She then told me to take my box to the payment center to see if they would swap it. I asked for the telephone number and she replied that they do not give out the payment center numbers. Since its not far from my house I went to the payment center without my box. The lady there said they didn't have any yet and doesn't know when they'll be in. She also told me that I couldn't come in and swap boxes that a technican has to come over and install it. Talk about a run around! Now its back to the TWC website to fire off another email to the rep I've been working with the past 2 weeks trying to get a new box. She has told me that I am on the list! Well let's see how high on the list I really am!

I wouldn't run down to swap out your SA converters just yet. Supplies are extremely limited right now.
I am surprised these are available already, as they have been used in 'demo mode' for awhile.
I have been using one for a few weeks now.  From my experience, you may notice some 'sluggishness' of the program guide and other instabilites.  In general the box is worth the little glitches being ironed out because of the added features it supports.
I never received a manual for the set top, but from what I have experienced, the setting you are describing selects what HD formats are downconverted to the SD outputs of the set top (S-Video & composite).

I don't think they're giving out demo boxes, I called late morning and was told that they didn't have any but to call later in the afternoon as they were expecting some. I had no problem swapping my old box for a new one. I'll have to give the Kenosha office outstanding marks for customer service. I asked repeatedly if the box was the Pioneer HD one, the new one, and they went and checked for me. I live in Racine and I asked if the Racine office had any and she checked that for me. When I picked it up I asked about a DVI cable and the girl went and got a tech and brought him out. I will admit, this is the best I've been treated by Time Warner. I also got a manual with the box. Just 6 english pages decribing the plugs on the back and suggestions on how to hookup a TV, VCR etc. It does not describe the programming functions available. I found the guide is slower and jumpy when your watching an HD channel and you use the guide. The response on other channels seems the same as before. The guide is not available with the SA box while watching an HD channel. I think the different formats are so the box doesn't upconvert SD to 1080i. I set the box to 16x9 with stretch and 1080i. Channel 4 looked a little grainy? Then I added 480i, 780p and 720p, the picture seemed better. So I think the formats are there to match what your tv can take. I ordered the DVI-D cable today, thanks Dave, and I'll try that when it gets here. Also, if I have a HD channel on and switch to S-video output I do have a picture.

I had no problem getting the new box either.  She was telling me about the Tivo-like box that they are testing now and told me it is coming out early May.

Glad I saved my old box though.  Woke up this morning and now I don't get any of the digital or HD channels. Doesn't matter what I select in output formats.  Everything worked great the first hour I had and it hasn't worked since.

If it worked the first hour, but not anymore...try unplugging the box from the wall for a minute or two, then plug it in again and let it connect.  I think the same thing happened to me the first day I had my SA3100HD box, but the install guy warned me ahead of time.  By forcing the box to reconnect to the system, it will take on the attributes sent by TWC as to what channels you should be receiving (because that first day you generally receive ALL channels, until they get everything into the computer that will tell your box what to block out).

That took care of it.  And now I get Starz, which I never got before.

Thanks

Called TWC this morning, guess I should have called sooner. :bang:

The rep said they have none of the 3510's available.  Has anyone else gotten a different story?

I've been placed on a "call back" list once they become available again.
