In looking over at AVSforum, there's a thread regarding semi-mysterious calls from DirecTV asking subscribers if they knew what a 'Sat C' was, if they had one, and if they could view channel 90 (the 110 sat test channel).

The notion being that ESPN-HD might show up on Sunday over on the 'C' satellite.

My questions: How many of us here have the Sat C LNB installed and configured, ready for ESPN-HD ??

Has anyone received the DirecTV call ?

Can't wait for ESPN-HD !!

veyj

Sat C installed and working.

Thanks for the heads up Todd.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I too have the sat-c kit installed and working. I am totally waiting for ESPN-HD.

Just for the heck of it, I called DirecTV and asked about the carriage of ESPN-HD.

I was told they were still in discussions ...

Anyone else have a minute to call and ask the same question ??

Perhaps D* would notice all the 'hits' ... or not ?

veyj

I gave D* the call.  Same reponse Todd.  Maybe I'll count as another hit.

I called as well. I think the guy's name was Schultz - "I know nothing!":D

Heh..... I know.

But you think maybe they are gearing for something?

Hmm..... negotiations maybe?

... as far as DirecTV channel 426. It's ESPND as in ESPN Deportes (Sundays only)

This was discussed ad nauseum yesterday over on AVS forum.

Wish something would happen, but not quite yet.

Watch out, everyone, tomorrow is 4/1/03.

I have noticed that the channels Directv wasted on 516 and 517 are gone...you would notice a break in between the Cinemax and the Starz listings with Directv junk channels and now they are gone...unless that was just yesterday. Channel 90 is working again. Maybe they are freeing up bandwidth. Directv is nortorious for wasting bandwith with junk info channels toting its fare. Maybe if they tote less, there could be a couple more HD channels in the offing. Better to make some money on useful channels like HD versions of Discovery and ESPN than the usual waste.
I have ALSO noticed that in the past few months of my Directv billings a listing of "HDTV HDNET" is on a billing line all of its own...and that...at no charge. Does this mean a charge in the future for a HD "package" of channels like the movie packages?
NO one at Directv can explain it. But why list it like that unless it would at least be in the planning stage and why not tell us?
As I see it, HDNET Movies, HD Discovery, and ESPN-HD are already missing from the Directv offerings and soon the Cinemax and Bravo channels will come along- AND THEN WHAT? A HD "package"finally??
If satellite can never offer local HD channels in the future due to bandwidth restrictions, it should at very least stay in touch with the HD reality it CAN deliver.
Anyone notice their HD part of their Directv bill?
Is Directv waiting for Murdoch or SBC to buy them before offering what it should? Many of us in this forum scrambled to install the C sat kit about a year ago only to find all they get is Showtime-still!

Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up.....  :D

Oh, and I say add another sattelite. Bring on the Sat D kit.
