I just inquired about Dish Network because I am fed up with TWC, and they tell me that they Don't offer Milwaukee locals, is that right?

But, DirecTV does... I think it's nine local channels.

Actually 10: DirecTV has 4,6,10,12,18,24,30,36, 55 and 58. None of the digital locals, though.

Be very careful about Dish Network. Their customer service is poor like TWC, ever since the merge thing started, friends have told me. Also, remember that in addition to no locals, 2 dishes are required for their 61.5 and 110 WL orbital locations, and you will NEED BOTH to get HD reception,too.. Go with an OTA and integrated DIRECTV receiver for the best combo-have the arial and 18 x 24" dish installed (triple LNB) all at the same time and call a couple of places for quotes and specials. Flanners starts its anniversary store sale today so start there!

Locals were not an issue for me when I chose Dish Network. Customer service has been OK for me, but I haven't experienced any major problems requiring their help. However, I can confirm the hardware "challenge" see here.

Even more important, if you are used to the feel and operation of TWC, you will HATE what Dish's only HD STB (6000) has to offer. It's old technology, slow, clunky and very bland.

Although I'm happy with my setup and service, if I had to start over (with the help of this group ), I'd definitely be looking at Directv.

Oh yeah, steer clear of the big-box "free installation" promos. Two no-shows and 1 installer's mistaken opinion that I had a line-of-sight problem also helped send me over to Dish Network and self-install. Stick with local installers as recommended by the members here.

In my experience with installers, both DIRECTV and DISH have had their share of oddball installers. Their should be a "Mr.Goodwench" training program for all of them and certification, especially if their parent companies expect to grow. Afterall, if you can't deliver the product(with the dish installed), why bother having a business like satellite TV? While TV delivery is different from other products, how well would any other business do if the consumer was treated with a "take it or leave it attitude"? OR, "I'm sorry, we just can't fix or install your product today as we don't have anyone trained or interested today"?? If DIRECTV and DISH are looking for more profitable operations, then the "front line" is the installers compentancy!! More Dish product? Oh Please! Charlie Ergan is just waiting for the "merger", then he'll order a more efficient HD box etc.  He can't get his satellites straight in one direction  ( or in orbit ) so why should he care about your box ?
