ISF Tech/Calibration?

Greetings!  I am new to this board, and the world of HDTV.  I recently bought a 65in Toshiba widescreen, and was told by a friend that I should get it tweaked by a ISF Tech (is that correct?).

Anyways, he said it costs a few hundred dollars.  Has anyone done this and is the change noticable?

Also, do you know any Milwaukee area techs who do this sort of calibration?

So far, I am happy with the picture, but notice the letterbox black bars on some movies seem like they could be darker.

Any advice would be great!  Thanks

Jason

You can make a lot of improvement, and prolong the life of the set, by making a few ordinary adjustments right now and by purchasing "Avia" for proper setup.

Most people do not really know that the "Brightness" adjustment controls the "darkness" of the blacks, and that the "Contrast" controls the "brightness" of the whites.  The people who thought up these names must have been dain-bramaged.  Everything else between black and white is adjusted correspondingly.

So immediately, you should adjust the Brightness control downward until the black bars are indeed black.  You should also also adjust the Contrast control downward to about the half-way point.  It may well seem too dark at that point, but it is nevertheless more correct and will preserve your investment.  Then get Avia and adjust the other controls.  Sharpness, in particular, should be reduced a lot, usually all the way to zero.
