Scientific-Atlanta Working With Best Buy and Cox Communications to Give
Consumers More Choices for Enjoying HDTV Programming

    ATLANTA, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Scientific-Atlanta (NYSE: SFA)
provides another choice for consumers who seek high-definition content along
with advanced cable services.  The company announced today it is joining with
Best Buy stores and Cox Communications to make Scientific-Atlanta(R) High-
Definition (HD) set-tops available in all Phoenix area Best Buy locations
starting this week.
Scientific-Atlanta is already a leader in cable HDTV set-tops, having
shipped more than 200,000 to date via the traditional MSO lease to consumer
channel.  By adding another distribution channel, cable will have greater
capability to compete for the growing market for HDTV owners.
Under the retail program, Best Buy stores in Phoenix will offer customers
Cox's Digital Cable Package with High-Definition Service, which includes the
Scientific-Atlanta HD set-top.  Coupled with Cox High-Definition Service, the
most comprehensive lineup available in the Phoenix market, consumers will be
exposed to the many advantages digital cable offers.  To complete activation
of service, consumers only need to contact Cox via phone.
"We have already had strong success with HDTV set-tops through the MSO
channel, and adding the choice of consumer ownership with Cox and Best Buy
should further accelerate HDTV adoption," said Michael P. Harney, corporate
senior vice president and president of Subscriber Networks, Scientific-
Atlanta.  "This retail program provides Cox customers in Phoenix with easy
access to some of the best HD products and technology available on the market
today."
"The agreement with Scientific-Atlanta and Best Buy creates an ideal
combination for television and set-top acquisition and makes it even easier
for our Phoenix customers to enjoy Cox High-Definition Service," said Beth
Denning, director of Sales and Distribution for Cox Communications
