I was very impressed with the game last night. I am not a big NBA fan (more of a Marquette/college fan), but I do enjoy watching basketball from time to time. Other than the obvious upconverted overhead shots, and a few audio drop-outs, it looked excellent.
I turned off all my living room lights about the middle of the second quarter. Maybe my halogen was washing out color, but after that the colors were so vibrant looking, damn near jumping off the screen were the West's red uniforms. The blue striping in the uniforms looked absolutely 3-D.
I am not a hockey fan either, but I will definitely be watching more basketball and hockey in HD.

Anyone catch Mariah Carey's half-time show ? She looked very attractive in HD, even though you could totally see the lip-syncing. I guess you cant get away with it in HD.

Sports in HD is the way to go!

Overall, the NBA All-Star game looked good.  I watched it on TWC-HD 503.

Was it just me, or did anyone else experience some sound issues throughout the game.  For me, the levels seemed to jump around and a few times, it popped in and out.  Other than that, I enjoyed it.

I noticed  a few issues where it seemed like they had an extra mike on and some hissing.

My biggest complaint was that the game was played under night-time conditions indoors. Was there a reason why they didn't have the lights on? Definitely not the best way to showcase HD when there's no chance of seeing the last guy in the upperdeck no matter how good the resolution is. The entire pregame and gametime festivities seemed on par with minor league baseball. They couldn't even get the players to fake a smile on the introductions.

I noticed the audio issues as well.  It seemed there was some kind of automatic gain control in the audio processing somewhere because whenever the ball hit the rim or somebody dunked (causing a loud sound), the entire audio track decreased in volume.

It was interesting that it was a completely different production in HD.  Even different announcers.  I'm not sure why they would do that.

I was wondering why they had Dan Majerle and John Thompson announcing the All-Star game.  I didn't realize it was a completely different broadcast...didnt really feel like switching to the analog broadcast.  I also noticed the audio problems, and it was really annoying.  After some playing with my receiver, i was able to make it tolerable, but i would say it definitely needs some work.  The HD picture, on the other hand, was incredible.  The SD picture left something to be desired, but you win some, you lose some i guess.

The picture was incredible.  That is the reason for HD.  There was no blur on the TWC box like in the superbowl.  The transfers from HD to SD were also clear.  The sound was annoying.  It sounded almost like a live feed, without a mixer equalizing the levels of the announcers.  Overall, a very enjoyable experience.

FWIW, Sunday night's Lakers-Knicks game will be shown in HD on DirecTV channel 198, free of charge. Start time is 8:30 CST.

I thought the HD Super Bowl looked MUCH better than the HD NBA Allstar game. Maybe it was too dark in the arena or maybe the game was just too boring. The best looking shots were the ones taken from the roof of the arena.
